OK, with five of the six teams in the NND fielding first year Head Coaches at their schools this season, who do you think is in the running for the honors of Coach of the Year? Reason?
some pretty impressive teams this season with great records
Coach Taylor- W&L (1st Year) 6-1
Coach Jones - Essex (Complicated... 1st year returning to Essex since 2009) 6-1
Coach Lewis- Northumberland (1st Year) 5-2
Coach Payton- Colonial Beach (1st Year) 4-3
Coach West- Rappahannock (Returning) 3-4
Coach Washington- Lancaster (1st Year) 1-6

CB for me. One of the best coached teams I have seen in a while. Talk about getting the most out kids. As for Essex, if a coach cant win with what they have on the sidelines, they should leave the country

To me it’s the winner of Colonial Beach Northumberland game whoever win is more and likely to win out with great records and a good seed in playoffs.

Why not Taylor? taking a team that is on their 4th coach in 5 years and holds a 6-1 this late in the season.
Why not Jones? are you saying that the talent in Essex is better than the coaching? Jones has returning coaches from the 2009 State Championship season, and a defensive coordinator that helped win the JV NND title the last two years?
Not Knocking CB or Northumberland, just a thought provoking question. Looks like the NND should be even stronger the next couple of years.

Right now I'd vote Taylor. Two of the other prime candidates inherited winners and Essex just needed some retrofitting.Taylor got a program that went 3-7 a year ago under a coach now at winless PV-Sterling that is giving up 61 points per game. Now, obviously W&L hasn't played a schedule like Essex or CB.

Coach Taylor at W+L has done an impressive job. It is tough to have success with that many coaching changes over the course of as many years.
That being said, if Essex finishes 9-1 and undefeated in the NND I don't see how it couldn't be Jones.

I do agree with NNKD4L in that all four of those coaches discussed above definitely should be in the running for NND COY (NHS, W&L, Essex, and CB).

One could make a persuasive case in favor of each one. It will be a bit more clearer at the end of regular season play (maybe ha).

Not sure if NND Sports Fan thinks that Northumberland Coach Lewis inherited a "winner."

Yes, NHS won 7 games last season, but that was only NHS' third season above .500 in 20+ years.

Some programs in the NND have had constant, storied success for mostly 20 years.

Also, yes, I agree that Essex and CB have had tough schedules. Well how about NHS?

This Friday at Colonial Beach will be the Indian's 5th away game in a row - all tough to very tough competition - 6 total away games - tough to get much tougher than that.

Yes NHS Schedule has been tough playing 3 homecomings in a row against tough schools (Trinity Essex and W&L) and then got Colonial Beach in which I believe might be their senior night could be wrong tho. If coach Lewis can manage to go 8-2 with a Schedule like that it be very impressive also being Northumberland best record in decades

Earl Payton is the new head coach at Colonial Beach.

He is a CB grad and has been on staff since the mid-early 2000s.

Its awesome to see Colonial Beach hand the reigns over to a guy who has been in the system, help build the program, has invested countless hours making the Beach the best program it could be. A lot of schools took take a lesson from the Beach here....

with the season gone by now who do you think are the top candidates for Coach of the Year in the NNK District ?
3 NNK teams remain alive in playoffs
Essex
Northumberland
W&L

I'm a Northumberland guy but I think Jones is the lock for it. 9-1 record, district champion, #1 seed in region A. Lewis would be second. Taking the Indians to one of it's best seasons right behind Lewis's junior season in high school. Taylor and Payton had great first year's as well with winning seasons. Either way who ever wins, I think we can all agree the coaching pool in the NND is very bright.

Its still CB for me. Numbld and WnL have many many kids to work with. Its a much bigger challenge to squeeze out victory with 20 or so kids vs 40.
