Let's have a fun debate. Who's 2-0 start is more impressive ? Joe Taylor 2-0 start ? Or the 22 year old Aaron Lewis 2-0 start ?

Both are the same to me. Neither team has beaten a top level team in their 2 wins. Surry and Northampton are not strong teams that Northumberland played and Middlesex/Mathews not strong teams for W&L. W&L struggled with Middlesex and won in OT and Northumberland won't doing so well at the half with Northampton. Northumberland and W&L have a lot of talent. NOW,,. If you want to break it down another way like learning new plays...I would give that edge to W&L. I'm guessing Taylor installed his stuff compared to Lewis might be running plays the kids already know. I'm guessing

Essex will win the district. Nmbld is much improved, but they wont be able to go palmer left or palmer right against the speed of Essex defense. And chunking the ball up for grabs is not exactly an offensive philosophy. Its a long season, we shall see.. Good luck and hopefully all the kids stay healthy

Palmer is presently sidelined with an injury. Before Northumberland plays Essex their toughest game might be Middlesex or possibly Trinity Episcopal.

It is definitely an intriguing thought to consider and compare the coaching success or struggles of Taylor and Lewis. However, I would suggest that we wait until the season is completely over before we can truly reflect on whose team was more impressive.

I also agree with EssexTrojan1 in that neither Northumberland nor W&L has accomplished anything yet of major accomplishment. Let's see who wins the head to head battle, how the teams compete or not against Essex, and if they have success in the playoffs.

I think we are truly blessed in our NNK area with strong coaches and ADs for Essex, W&L, Rapp, and Northumberland. I am not familiar with the new folks at Lancaster and CB.

One thing is for sure, every team will have an opportunity to prove themselves on the field and we will have some exciting games to watch. Hope all the fans come out to support these young players of their community.

CB should be much of the same. A promotion of a smart guy from within, who will run the same system they have been running for years. Lancaster seems to have a guy with a proven track record, and I know their principal greatly supports the athletic program. Football seems to be doing quite well in the NND.

Essex is definitely the heavy favorite. It will be tough to knock them off for sure. I'm sure that the NHS coaches know that opposing teams will focus on stopping Palmer.

Another challenge for NHS this season is that the Indians only have 4 home games. Plus, I think that Middlesex, Trinity Episcopal, Essex, CB, and W&L are all away (all strong teams) Now that is a tough schedule.

I'd completely agree that neither team has shown much as far as impressive wins over tough opponents the W&L win over middlesex was a double digit come from behind win in overtime in a game in which Middlesex lost their RB in the first quarter who accounted for 5 td's vs Rappahannock week two. I think it's a fun conversation to have and gives coaches credit for their accomplishments on the field which is well deserved but rarely received. Keep up the good work!

I'm glad that both LHS and CB got good coaches as well. Yes, the new principal at Lancaster will be a great advocate for academics and athletics. Always helpful, hopefully, they also found a strong AD.

Colonial Beach is not getting a lot of praise (after last years great success) but they may be a surprise team this season.

CB barely lost at 3A Spotsy (where their old coach now works). Spotsy is now 2-0 with a win over Fluvanna who has over a 1,000 students.

CB lost star Lamar Lucas and has less than 200 kids. Amazing how tough those kids are!

Rappahannock at West Point -

Even though West Point is ranked in the Va Preps Top Ten and may have a strong team this season (plus is at home), I am thinking that Rappahannock is going to pull off the victory over WP.

Essex may simply destroy King William....Does anybody think KW can even keep it close?

Any other thoughts?

The Rapp v West Point game should be a good one. Whoever wins, I think we certainly will learn a lot about the strength of both squads.

I mentioned it in a post the other week about how young this year's KW team is. I even said they could finish anywhere between 4-6 And 8-2. But Bruton was one of the team's that I thought they'd beat. All of their top skill guys are sophomores and I think it probably will be a real struggle this week. They are taking their lumps right now but I still like this group of kids. It is a very good chance that they start 0-5. I hope not but I'm being realistic. But they will improve each week and until proven otherwise are still the favorites in the district although WP and Middlesex will have a say in it this year. But the future is bright at KW as these sophomores will only get older and wiser. Next year they will also bring up some talented 8th graders who are legit studs and who will have an impact all 4 years on varsity. KW hasn't had a losing season since 1974, I believe, and while it could be in jeopardy this year, I still stand by the statement I said that the streak will continue. I might be wrong but like I said, I like these young kids and they will only get better. Remember they lead Prince Edward a majority of the game and PE just beat a solid Altavista team

I think it's a great thing to see some young coaches infused into the District. The new guys both have major work cut out for them. Both have managed to start 2-0 and even though many don't consider either of the wins for both W&L and Northumberland to be significant, but it is good for them both to learn what they can do and need to improve on. That's good and hats off to them both and good luck. Would love to see W&L put Essex down..

Being that the Essex/W&L game will be the 9th game of the season, both teams should be hitting on all cylinders by that time. When it comes down to those 2 rivals, anything can happen.

As a grown man I shouldn't feel this way, but it always feels FANTASTIC when WP beats KW. Still remember 21-12 from Fall 99 VERY well. The news chopper landing at the field. The Pointers in all orange to spoil KW's homecoming. Gets me amped just thinking about it.

Was at that game. Ben Vincent put WP on his back that night. If I'm not mistaken, that game was played on a Saturday night as it got cancelled for some reason on Friday night.

They may need a few more camps

Ben was all-everything that night, for sure. But it was definitely on a Friday, that's why the chopper came out & did a segment there. Can't remember if it was channel 6, 8 or 12 though...

You might be right. I'm getting old. Lol. For some reason, Saturday sticks in my mind. Not sure on the news channel but channel 8 seems to have always given the most attention to schools down this way.
