Very intrigued by this matchup as high flying Warriors meet proud Northside squad that has struggled with execution and consistency and have lost some great players to injury. From what I understand they are starting to play more consistent. Can the Vikings play well enough on defense and run the ball with their physical play to keep the ball away from the Warriors?

Warriors. Northside is proud and well coached. They've made tremendous adjustments following incredible losses in personnel. A real tribute to them and their program. They've done well and gone far. But it ends Friday.

FYI. Vista needs to be damn grateful the fates have depleted Northside to this level, otherwise it's a completely different game. But it is what it is. GL to both.

Will be a great football game for sure. I think Shaunt might be right with his prediction. If Northside had all their guns, I think they'd be the favorite. Going to be some huge matchups with Jackson and Carter in the NS secondary trying to shut down that MV WR group led by Gravely, Penn and Ramey. I think Jackson is becoming more comfortable at the QB position and he is certainly more dangerous with the ball in his hands than Hardister was, as a running threat anyway. I'm expecting a game similar to last year, defensive struggle. I've got Magna Vista getting revenge, 20-17. Wouldn't be suprised if Northside wins though. Good Luck to both.

Yeah shauntclair, I saw Northside's game against Brookville. The Vikings played very well that night. Both Northside and Magna Vista have a few things in common. Defensively, both teams are quick to the ball. Both teams have had to make personnel adjustments. Both teams are well coached. Both teams have had winning seasons since having their current coaches. Both teams have much support from their respective communities. Both teams are currently playing with back-up QB's that would start on any other team. Both back-up QB's have done very well in the games where they have had to start at QB and have held their own at their normal defensive starting positions. I think that this game will be one of the best games in the Commonwealth on Friday night. May the best team win. GO WARRIORS!!! The HOLE will definitely be very LOUD!!

Northside has had some personnel losses although incredible might be a little stretch and saying Magna Vista should be damn grateful is a bigger stretch IMO. Chance Hall is the biggest loss literally and figuratively, however, they have had a season to adjust to that loss which is entirely different than losing a guy mid season or later. IMO, Tra Jackson as the trigger man will make Northside much more dangerous on offense and more difficult to defend as he gets more and more comfortable with the position. MV with McGuire's injury hasn't escaped unscathed either. Should be a good game in Ridgeway and both Torrence and Favero deserve credit for the jobs they have done this year.

Call me crazy but I definitely don't see a blow out. NorthSide's defense is the real deal. Magna Vista's offense is the real deal, I think a lot will determine the factor of the ball game Friday, biggest factor is field condition. I was fortunate enough to make last years game and the field was apparently wet due to weather from earlier in the week and it crippled Magna Vistas offense, as far north side the ground and pound game wore MV out second half. Do It supposed to be any weather this week in Ridgeway? I do think the winner of this game will win the state championship but I don't know to much about the East so who knows..I know both teams are well coached and they have a mutual respect for one another so I think it goes down to which defense shows up for NorthSide and which Offense shows up for Magna Vista.

Excellent post. This certainly does have the makings of a great game. The similarities you mention are spot on. I definitely think it will be loud in Ridgeway Friday night. I was very impressed when you guys came to our place last year. Tremendous fan support! Looking forward to it!

Jackson does indeed look like he is getting more "comfortable" as QB. I thought he did a nice job against Blacksburg, especially for his first start. However, he looked impressive against BV. He seemed more in command and was throwing the ball much better. Should be interesting Friday!

I agree that this will be a "defensive struggle". Honestly, I thought NS had their best defensive performance of the season against BV. There were a lot of big hits and BV struggled to do anything offensively. However, MV's "O" is at a whole other level. Potent for sure with lots of speed. Anybody that loves high school football doesn't want to miss this clash. I think it will come down to basics. The team that wins in the trenches and has the fewest turnovers and penalties will win. I like your score, but I'll go with NS as the victor.

Technically Jackson is the back-ups back-up. Austin Fisher was the #2 behind Hardister.
I look forward to the game at The Hole. MV brought the fans to NS last year and I expect the atmosphere to be awesome Friday night.

Like they let GW score 50 right?

Your post made me laugh. I too think MV is the best team in 3A but they aren't head and shoulders above like Northside was last year. Northside or James Monroe can beat them if they don't come to play. To say "whatever they decide to let Northside score" is comical. Like they just let Monticello score 24 last week and let GW score 50 a month ago. Get real homie, their is a lot of great football outside of Southside VA. Again I'm picking MV to take the crown as well but at least be respectful of the defending state champ. If Northside does happen to win friday I'm sure this bulletin board material will have a bit to do with it. You need to worry about your Eagles trying to take down the Spartans, which I also think could be possible. I said earlier this year I thought GW had the best chance of beating Salem in 4A North simply because of their offensive balance and team speed. Top two teams from Southside vs top two teams from Roanoke, I'm hoping for two great games, may the best teams win and hope everyone stays healthy.

Northside defense is the real deal. Magna Vista has put up a lot of points on some weak teams. They also have given up a lot of yards on the ground. It looks like it will be a real close game. I would say it will be one score either way. In some ways Nortside ground game is better than last year. Also Northside has always played really well against spread teams. Looking forward to the game Friday night.

Wow. "Whatever they decide to let Northside score" Really?

Magna Vista obviously has a good team to reach this point in the playoffs for the second year in a row. But posts like this are ludicrous. Their defense has not been THAT good to suggest that they can shut Northside out. They gave up 24 points to a Byrd team that NS limited to 7.

This is going to be a close game but to suggest a blowout shows a lack of knowledge about the Northside Defense. How many Northside games have you watched this season? The NS D will keep the game close and the O that makes the fewest mistakes will win the game.

Wow DanvilleSportsHead, I'm a Warrior and would have never said that. I am extremely confident in my Warriors and the progress they have made this season, but much respect to the Vikings and their accomplishments also. It should be a great game between two very good teams. GO WARRIORS!!

Wow if you are rooting for Magna Vista you definitely don't want to make such statements in that way because you're actually hurting them. I actually heard about the game last Friday between Magna Vista and Monticello and I heard the Magna Vista defense played with a real chip on their shoulder because of hearing about the post on here, trash talk, and hearing such statements as you cannot stop Monticello's running back Kyree Koonce. That adds fuel to the fire. That goes for any teams starting at little league. Don't think these high school players don't get on here and look at these post, because back when I played, we didn't have all the social media as far as the twitter, facebook, and etc. All we had was the newspaper, and VA Preps, coaches would print these exacts post and show their teams how everyone viewed them. Whether or not Northside wins or not I PROMISE they will hear about this thread from a coach, parent, fan, or player and will bring that same chip Magna Vista had on their shoulder last week. North Side is the defending 3A champion for a reason and you have to respect that. I bet my last dollar if you was to say that statement to a MV coach or any other coach of that matter, they wouldn't even agree. It's a thin line between being confident and crazy and I think you just crossed it.

so i guess all of the teams northside have played are high caliber teams.............come on man!!!!

So i guess you can say they play with a chip on their shoulders every week, if they read these posts that say they play some form of a weak team...........get a life!!!

Gdogg my reference to the chip on the shoulder comment was too the comment made by DanvilleSportsHead saying how many points the magna vista defense "decides to let" Northside offense score. Who said anything about a weak schedule?? Did anywhere in my post did Mention either teams schedule?? There are a lot of post on here that Is good debate, trash talk, or whatever but to make a broad statement about a team is ludacris especially when they have loss a game, given up points, and have never won a state title. I'm from the southside area, the Martinsville/Henry County needs a footballs state title because they haven't had in a very long time. Magna Vista's never gotten one and they have some very good teams, so to make a statement like that is ludacris when you don't have much to back up from it.
GO WARRIORS!!!

Re: Like they let GW score 50 right?

I don't owe NS anything. They won 3A last year and they earned it and played well (nothing special or exciting and imo they wasn't head and shoulders above everybody) but this is this year. I could be wrong but I don't see MV losing this game and they shouldn't have any trouble winning by a couple scores.

I'm not going to pick a score or winner, but I will say I think the winner will be the team that controls the lines and the TOP. I think Magna Vista has an advantage with the skill players, but I think Northside will have the advantage on the lines. It will be an interesting matchup that I think will be decided by less than a touchdown either way.

Re: Like they let GW score 50 right?

Not trying to disrespect here but both MV and Salem will win by wide margins this weekend.

Re: Like they let GW score 50 right?

oh oh shauntclair i bet somebody will take that personal.

If Magna Vista wants to win they better improve stopping the run. Against Byrd earlier this year they gave up around 200 yards on the ground to freshman LJ Basham. Northside is a lot bigger and much more physical than Byrd. Didn't Koonce run all over Magna Vista last week as well?

Re: Like they let GW score 50 right?

Like that would mean something to me. Folks always hate when you're almost always right. Story of my life but I'm used to it. As anyone here knows, I never say I told you so and I'm always here when I'm wrong.

GL to both teams.

injuries are a part of the game, so no one can say if i had this if i had that, because that sayung if a frog had wings he would not bump his boo boo.

What's all this comparison to what MV did against Byrd lets talk about the egg Northside laid against Salem or the malfunction they had against Hidden Valley who is now enjoying basketball season..."The Hole" will be packed with WARRIOR FAITHFUL Friday night so make sure you stop by SHEETZ which is right up the road from MV after the game so you can get something to eat don't want any crying and driving on a empty stomach!!! GO WARRIORS!!!

I wouldnt say that Koonce ran all over MV. He had big chunks of yards in the first half, 2nd half correct me if im wrong, but I think he had 17yards. Same with Byrd big 1st half different story 2nd half. Byrd found a weakness in MV line and kept using it, after halftime adjustments MV had no issues with Byrd. I really think both teams are different from that 4th game of the season. It still should be a good game Friday night.

NokeViking, William Byrd's RB is a great athlete and being a freshman no one knew about him prior to this season. In that game he did gain some yards but apparently MV wasn't the only team that didn't know about him either because he finished the season with around 1200 yards and trust me he didn't get 1200 against MV. As a matter of fact in the Northside vs William Byrd game he racked up 100 yards against them. Just like in the Northside vs. Salem game Salem racked up a total of 351 total offensive yards which included 194 rushing yards and 157 passing yards. But since the William Byrd game MV's defense has risen to the occasion because last week Koonce ran the ball 28 times for 178 which included a 47 yard play and several yards for losses and just a week prior he had 350 yards against Tunstall. So with defense being a part of football you are right that MV needs to play good defense against whoever they play but their opponents need to play good defense as well. Trust me this will be a great game and I'm looking forward to a great game where everyone is injury free and my prayer is that Magna Vista will come away with the victory. See you Friday!

GO WARRIORS!!!!

I hate to see all this rain falling on the football field, sure hope it dries out some by Friday night. Magna Vista works best on a fast track!

Well, one reason is that it's one of the common opponents....

.....between the 2 schools this season. Which admittedly gets a little dicey because of the changes at QB for the teams.

At this point in the season......

I doubt either NS or MV, two well coached veteran playoff teams, have any need for motivation from supposed "bulletin board material." Good teams' motors are already running but, it does keep the fans involved and the message board traffic up.
