The pig , located on West Main St in Salem in front of hobby shop , has traditionally been used by Salem and Glenvar students to paint their colors on.

Both are green and gold, Northside also has white mixed in. That is the official school colors anyhow. I'm guessing it had a big N painted on it.

Well, they left no doubt that it was Northside! I agree that it is awesome. Good clean, high school spirit where no real damage was done. Congrats to the Vikings. I'm sure what comes around goes around!
Well, their football team is nearly back to where it was about ten years ago, so it's good they have pig painting to fall back on.
Tra Jackson will make them better when he returns, but not that much better. Hard to see the Vikes finishing higher than fourth in the Blue Ridge. Could be a long season at Northside. I don't like to see this, because the rivalry with Salem had gotten good again.

I don't even think this qualifies as a prank. It's not an official Salem pig, per se. It's just one of those concrete porkers that you see outside barbecue places; this one stands in the parking lot of a small hobby and craft shop on Main Street. Anyone can come paint the pig at any time, for any occasion. It is not a secure pig. The hobby shop people initially encouraged the painting, but I think they're getting a little fed up with the constant mess in the lot, and with people out there at all hours.
I'd guess the pig gets painted two or three times a week, at least. Birthdays, anniversaries, births, homecomings, Roanoke College sororities, etc. I told my wife that I bet if someone would give the pig one good crack on the forehead with a sharp chisel, a three-inch thick coat of paint would fall away on either side, like a plaster cast, and the original pristine concrete pig would stand there, in all its porcine glory.
