Northumberland 37 Surry 0

Final was Northumberland over Surry 37-7 (halftime was 30-0)

Congrats to the Indians on the nice start!

Highlights were - 1st quarter - rough start for the Indians (no scrimmage to work out the kinks) when Elijah McLean swooped up a fumble for a 65 yard TD. Next series, McLean got another fumble and took it to the 1. Keon Redmond ran in the TD.

Delvin Palmer had 4 long TDs (two were called back).

Kicker Harry Lee made his only field goal attempt of 36 yards with plenty of room to spare.

Blake Edwards had a great interception in the 1st q - Blake (a Senior) is a 1st year football player but stars for the NHS Baseball team. Edwards also had a sack and some tackles.

Several baseball, soccer, basketball, wrestling, etc. kids out there - several new.

Other top performers were Caleb Davis (great game), Collin Saunders, Dionta Kelly, and the new QB, Q Williams had some fine aerials- strong arm - will get even better with experience.

That was before halftime.

Good luck to Surry. Surry gave a fine effort, they just need more players.

Fantastic home crowd for Northumberland - Northumberland held a big Back to School Rally today - All events were organized perfectly, I must say.

There was food, vendors, large inflatables, basketball skill games, the band played great, cheerleaders, Flag Girls, the Indian Spirit Dance Team performed their routine that won them 1st place in an competition at UVA this summer, a football pep rally, the football team looked sharp in their new helmets, NHS has two new ADs - well run show today.

I counted from the stands how many times the PA said Davis sack and it was at least five. He sacked the qb twice back to back. It may be hard to believe but he had five at the least. Not sure where nnk got that amount and could possibly be off on the tackles but you don't need to watch film to know he hit the qb for a loss 5 times. And before someone says anything I am not his parent just a coincidence on last name.

To clear things up number 24, Caleb Davis for sure had 19 tackles and 5 sacks with recovering a fumble, my associates and I have recorded the game to study what needs fixing and it is surprising how he did it...I definitely wouldn’t sleep on him
