NHS scrimmaged at WP last night. I was not able to make it as I had just returned from an out of town trip. I was particularly interested in this scrimmage as both teams are hoping for very successful seasons.

As we all know, it is sometimes difficult to learn from football scrimmages a lot about a team's future chances from a fan's perspective (often, coaches are working on their own schemes , did the starters all play and when? and so on.)

I have heard some different accounts. I heard the final score (if one kept track) was Northumberland won over WP like 42-12. I also heard from a different source that it was much closer than that and West Point may have "won" with the starters in. Again, not sure how they played this" glorified practice". Who knows?

Well, I was hoping that 2x4 or another WP or NHS fan knows and could shed some light on their interpretations/perspective on the overall scrimmage. Thanks in advance!

Wishing both teams a great season!

My synopsis.....

Palmer is the real deal. WP had no equalizer for him. NHS will go as far as Palmer's legs will take them lol

WP is a solid team and if it was a real game it may be closer than the scrimmage score but I would still favor NHS. WP marched the ball down the field vs NHS with some but not much resistance.

Both teams are prob a good shot to make the playoffs

West Point was outmatch by Northumberland speed. West Point only scored twice and Northumberland scored six times. Palmer is definitely the real deal and will be hard to stop this year. He was responsible for 5 out of the 6 touchdowns for Northumberland

Palmer is the qb I assume? Yes very good and speed to burn. However he did not score when WP had their starting d in. Nbmld scored several td's on pass plays against 2 and 3 rd string secondary. WP only played their full compliment of starters (offense and defense) when the timed "game conditions" segment of the scrimmage took place. This part was 2 12 min running clock qtrs. WP was up 14-0 before they started subbing in the 2nd qtr. Numbld scored on the first play the subs were in. The final for the timed session was 16-14, Nbld. Take from that what you want, but If I was Nmbld, I certainly would not go around claiming to be 4tds better than WP. That would be a false statement. Not saying they wont be good, but other than the qb, not much else of a threat.

Northumberland scored on its first two possessions against the West Point starters. Palmer threw a bomb to a wide open receiver Then next series northumberland marched down and scored again against that same group with 5 plays left out of 10 and on the very last play got stop at West Point two yard line. These are definitely two playoff teams who I think will make some noise and shouldn't be slept on.

Great input by NND, nnk, and 2x4. Fascinating how we can observe the same event and come to different conclusions. Oh welcome nnkalumni2! Always good to hear different opinions on Preps.

It sounds like WP will be quite tough when at full strength.

I'll just add that yes, NHS's Palmer is indeed the real deal. The young man is literally a threat to score from anywhere on the field almost at any time (imo). He is fun to watch for sure and tough for opposing Ds to prepare for,

However, NHS has other talented and fast kids that must be utilized in order to have success down the road. That is a huge key for NHS having big time success. Other teams will practice containing him so other players must be ready and should find open seems to exploit while Ds focus on stopping Palmer.

For example, NHS was 5-0 last season when they ran into Essex. Essex had a great game plan to stop Palmer and Ball and the Indians looked a tad lost. Got to be ready for the chess match against the great teams.

NHS coach Lewis and staff have over 65 kids in the program (Varsity and JV). That is a great victory there as NHS football has only recently enjoyed some strong success.
