Heck, back to back weeks that Northumberland has canceled games.Back to back years they have canceled...
They have a couple more in their district left to go.They must be done playing the cupcakes on their schedule
I didn't figure it would be. So I guess Northumberland will finish 7-1 and probably get the 2 seed in the Region over KQ who beat Northumberland by 44 but will ultimately probably get the low end of the stick for playing 10 games. IMO tonight's game should be a forfeit win for Essex if it's not going to be made up.I was told that it would not be made up...
The way it stands now, Northumberland will only have 8 regular season games because they canceled last week against a really good private school in St Stephens-St Agnes. Yes I know there was bad weather last week, but their game was scheduled for Saturday to begin with and just about all other schools got their games in last week. It’s unfortunate for the athletes that would have gotten to play in front of those recruiters. For the seeding talk that has been brought up, I would hope that high school coaches/administrators aren’t doing these things to ensure extra home games or positioning themselves unfairly by doing so. The Covid seasons seem to have given some people this idea when games were random and some teams played 6-7 games total in the regular season but we’re still rewarded with higher seeds. Again the unfortunate ones are the student athletes that put in the work and have potential opportunities snatched from them.
Seldon is obviously a great athlete and a great player, but he's going to Tennessee based on what he did in camps. He's only played 13 high school games in the last 3 years, so it's surely not because of that. That's a shame if that plays out like that for KQ. The hype around Northumberland the past few years has been all talk.
An email went out from Essex principal. In short….the game was cancelled due to “a credible safety threat”. Word is some chatter was going on over there so it was cancelled. Why? Why was it cancelled?
Middlesex isn't allowed to be in the playoffs because they don't play a full district schedule. Do the same to Northumberland. I'm not saying there wasn't a threat today, but it's become quite a coincidence in the last several years that Northumberland will find any way they can to get out of a tough game. Why couldn't they have played last Saturday like they were originally scheduled to begin with? What's the reason that they're not trying to reschedule the Essex game? They surely wouldn't be the first team to play twice in a week. Heck, Sussex just played a game on Monday and another on Thursday.Northumberland is just scared to play good competition. Two forfeits in the same season, shouldn’t even be allowed to compete in the playoffs in my opinion. Not over a team with a full 10 game schedule
It’s annoying, they’re suppose to be a top caliber team with great a Great D1 athlete. Not really teaching that young man great work ethic. No offense to him but he probably won’t make it at a D1 school and northumberland will get put out first round of the playoffs. If they’re so scared about safety then only allow the parents in the game, no spectatorsMiddlesex isn't allowed to be in the playoffs because they don't play a full district schedule. Do the same to Northumberland. Didn't they schedule KW as a fill in opponent last year and it was supposed to be closed to the public, then they canceled because of SATs. It wasn't like they didn't know about the SATs beforehandIt’s annoying, they’re suppose to be a top caliber team with great a Great D1 athlete. Not really teaching that young man great work ethic. That's mainly my issue. There's no reason it couldn't have been rescheduledNorthumberland wanted to play but they don’t get the last say it’s up to the principal & AD they talk about safety I get it but they also could have reschedule to Saturday during day time or played with no fans
So when's the make up date?So let me get this straight we are bashing a team because they are taking safety concerns. I highly doubt Northumberland is trying to avoid playing games. Last week the entire state was under hurricane watch Northumberland was scheduled to play st. Stephens away on a Saturday cause st. Stephens doesn’t have lights. Kinda hard to reschedule a game if a team is 2.5 hours away and doesn’t have lights on there field in the middle of the week. By the way westmoreland and riverheads we’re supposed to play and that game isn’t being made up either(highly doubt either team is running from that game and also around 2.5 hour difference). As for the Essex game let’s not forget about last year and the safety concerns surrounding the game against Northumberland. At the end of the day we are talking about teenagers and their safety, and also the safety of the public. If Northumberland’s administrators felt there was risk for concern then they did the right thing. Because at the end of the day it’s just a game.
Didn't they cancel 2 or 3 games last year too?The handful of people I've spoken with about this agree that Northumberland should be forced to forfeit if it's not rescheduled. Play on a date with no fans allowed in just players, support personnel and media. If they don't feel adequate security can be provided by the Northumberland Sheriff's Office ask the state police for assistance and I'm sure the Essex Sheriff would be acceptable to sending some deputies to help out.
I felt the same way last year when they canceled on us.Yes there was Hurricane weather last Friday, but Northumberland was already scheduled to play on Saturday to begin with and last Saturday was a beautiful day. Plenty other teams made up games. This has absolutely nothing to do with the kids and yes always safety first, but it seems to be an annual thing where they cancel games against tough opponents and don't even reschedule. My personal opinion is if the game isn't rescheduled then Essex should win by forfeit instead of it just being declared a no contest.
Northumberland didn't play a full district schedule last year either.Middlesex isn't allowed to be in the playoffs because they don't play a full district schedule. Do the same to Northumberland. Granted 2020 was the Covid year, but they haven't played Essex in 3 years. I know in regards to West Point, they canceled a couple of scrimmages against yall, if I'm not mistakenNorthumberland didn't play a full district schedule last year either.
It wasn't because of that. Essex and Northumberland has had "problems" for a while, but the kids still wanted to play.I think the threat was Essex hanging 60 on them
