Word on the street is Northumberland backed out. Maybe because of what happened a couple weeks ago. Don’t know but Essex May be looking for a team to fill in.

If Northumberland backs out of a district game. Does that make them ineligible for the regional playoffs?

Tried that number was disconnected, however Lake Taylor would love to play and come to them if they are interested
Just told one of the asst. that the number didn’t work. Waiting to see if he has another.

From what I understand, Northumberland didn’t want to play Friday night due to what happened a couple weeks ago. They wanted to play Saturday at 11am or so. Essex said 2pm but the trouble is finding refs for Saturday. All are booked for little league games.

I can certainly understand wanting to play a day game. A bit ironic though since it seems that a NU student/resident was at least involved in someway that night.

#Essex High School announces Friday's Homecoming game against Northumberland has been canceled due to lack of officials' availability (per @Cpayne1208). School will continue Spirit Week and scheduled parade in Tappahannock.

It has certainly been frustrating for the Northumberland Football Program.

Again, these decisions to not play these 2 big games or the 2 games against weaker competition have had nothing to do with any NHS football people. I can assure you that it is very frustrating for all involved as the boys and coaches are ready to go.

I will admit that I find it somewhat perplexing that zero referees from the entire Richmond area could be found to do the huge game on a Saturday - and this was announced already on Monday?

Six days before a big game involving one of the top college recruits in the entire state....

Many Essex games v rivals like W&L have been played on a Saturday in the past.

I will take a "wild" guess that many more games at Essex involving local, rival high schools will be played on an early Saturday afternoon there in the near future....

Like everything else in this country, there’s also a shortage of refs. A friend of mine at work is a ref in the Richmond area. He said it’s a shortage and most refs rather do little league games on Saturdays. Why drive an hour away for one game pay, when you can stay in your area and do multiple little league games and make more money? I can understand that.

Well, I certainly agree that there is a national shortage of workers and supplies. Too much free government money and unnecessary restrictions on small businesses out there. Not to mention rising inflation and increased crime etc.

Welcome to our great nation being on the precipice of becoming the Union of the Socialist States of America (the USSA).

Some say we have already fallen over that dangerous cliff....

Some people sure do have a lot to say about something they know very little about...

Just to be clear, my post was in no way at all against any referees or associations.

In fact, just the opposite.

My point was that the Essex game v Northumberland could have probably been played this Saturday with a little more effort and without blaming it on the refs....

Oh, and how about the adults arrested for the incidents at Essex? I can assure you that they were not from Northumberland.

Maybe read this week's newspaper from Essex county to find out more....

Wow!!! The paper clearly states that a Northumberland juvenile was involved as well and is facing 5 counts against him. It was right after the part about the 18 & 21 year old young adults from Essex. How could you have missed that?

hmmm... interesting....

Okay yes, the one juvenile rightly arrested two weeks ago was from Northumberland. This was publicly announced by the police immediately over two weeks ago and has been mentioned over 10 times on Preps (including by me).

However, no one on Preps had bothered to mention where the arrested adults who were fighting the said juvenile were from until well, now.
