This for me, goes down as one of the greatest high school games I've ever witnessed. Lord Botetourt came out in the 1st half on both sides of the ball and we're the better team. They were extremely difficult to move the ball on. When SR tried to throw the ball, LB got great pressure on our passers forcing 2 interceptions. SR in the 1st half I thought played really tough on defense as well. Though LB was moving the ball on their right side of their offensive line. SR's TJ Tester made a huge interception close to midfield just before halftime. SR's offense twice had the ball inside the red zone and came away empty. Once was even 1st and goal. But alot of our big gains on 1st down were negated by penalties. At halftime LB led 7-0. Beginning of the 3rd quarter looked a lot like the 1st half. LB got the ball to start the 2nd half and drove down the field eating up clock on the way and punched it in. 14-0. SR answered with a big kickoff return to midfield. A few plays later Tester got around the corner for a td run to cut the lead in half. LB's next possession resulted in a punt. SR's Grayson Overstreet ended up with a 50 yd td run to even it up at 14 on SR'S next possession and that's how the 3rd quarter ended. Momentum was clearly on SR'S side. 4th quarter LB was forced to punt. From this point on all I could really tell you was our offensive line was starting to wear down the LB d line. SR'S Overstreet scored again. I can't remember how much time was left. I wanna say there was 4 minutes left. May have been less. On LBS ensuing possession they started trying to spread SR out to try and run it. They moved the ball effectively into SR territory but time was definitely a factor. Now here's where things got unfortunately crazy. I can't remember exactly the yard line, I wanna say it was SR'S 18 yd line. LB was facing 4th down. Quarterback kept the ball and was tackled close to the 1st down marker but was severely injured on the play. After a long injury delay he was carted off the field. At this point we were all expecting a measurement. Either a 1st down or SR ball. Emotions were high! But what most everyone didn't know was, at that exact moment someone on the LB side was having a heart attack. Not sure who it was. I heard a Botetourt deputy but do not hold me to that. I heard they were doing chest compressions and ultimately resulted in continued stoppage of the game. It seemed like it may have been a 20 minute stoppage. May have been longer. Keep in mind there's only 48 seconds left. Now all of the sudden, all the emotions of this game have been altered by the news of what's causing the delay. Finally play resumed. LB managed to get the 1st down according to the measurement and proceeded to get to the 2 yard line for a final play and they were stopped short of the end zone trying to run around the left end. Needless to say our side erupted. I can see why most of LBS games have went the way they have. They are the epitome of a ball control team. They eat up a lot of clock. On defense they put tremendous pressure on the offense. It reflects in the scores of some of their game's. With that said, I saw a SR team that absolutely will not quit. I saw a SR coaching staff make great adjustments. It was a win that as a fan gives you the kind of confidence that they can match up well with anyone in class 3. Prayers go out to the individual on LB's sideline who had the heart attack. I hope they, and there family are all doing well this beautiful Saturday morning. I'm fixing to head to Winston Salem and catch my 4-0 Wake Forest Demon Deacons take on the 0-2 Florida state criminoles lol. Yall have a wonderful day and yes even Jhamm and pioneer4life I'm including yall.
