I don't think I can rank them but I will nominate a few schools. Salem. Amherst. Pulaski. Lake Taylor Dinwiddie. Sherando. I'm sure many of you can nominate many more. Maybe even do the rankings

Not badReally not sure who graduated what, but I will stick with traditional powers, one ready to make a dent and other threats to contend. No specific order.
West: Salem, Sherando, Amherst, Woodgrove and GW Danville (John Champe)
East: LT, Lafayette, Dinwiddie, Chancellor and Hanover (Smithfield)
Others: Pulaski, Eastern View, Powhatan and Kings Fork
I got them 8 2Checking the Amherst schedule on Maxpreps, it looks like the Lancers are bracketed on both ends of their season with two tough teams. Opening against Salem speaks for itself. And finishing with Appomattox will sure be a test going into the playoffs. At least they catch Appomattox at home. I can see 6-4 or 7-3.
It's likely both Salem and Amherst will face their most challenging opponents of the regular season when the two square off in Week One. Right now on paper, it looks like Salem will face three tough tests to start the year, in Amherst, Byrd, and Northside. Then (without assuming anything or taking any team for granted) six weeks of cruising until the finale at Pulaski.
I think Amherst can flip the JF loss to the other side of the ledger. The question is, who will they play in place of Okeechobee? That could be another win that was a loss last year. I too think the Lancers could finish 8-2, possibly 9-1 if Dame Fortune really smiles on them.
JF loses 20-some seniors, including most all of their studs, if I'm not mistaken. They're going to have to prove that they can reload, as opposed to having to rebuild.
They did pick up LCA and don't know why, but it is at Amherst, this one they should win and better or the fans will be disgruntled to start off with and yes I will need therapy if they don't.Maxpreps says they picked up LCA.
I don't see them losing this one. If they do, we may have to commit Wikki for therapy!
Hard to say this but don't think they will beat Salem especially at Salem but that will be a good indicator on their season to see how well they play against the State ChampsI think Amherst will be right there this year for sure
LCA loses so much from last year's team, that surprised me by getting hammered by almost 50 to Millbrook. They lose their 2 best WR's in Jauch & Strachman (6'5" 200), their leading RB, D1 talent in Terrell (DE), Knowles (DL), & Blake (G). They do return QB, Johnson, (6'2" 205) but otherwise they have a lot of question marks????I'd like to hear from Mike on what he thinks about the Amherst-LCA matchup.
I saw my Dr last week and we talked about football for about 15 minutes.I'd like to hear from Mike on what he thinks about the Amherst-LCA matchup.
Let's hear more about Amherst during the day today, and will will move on to rhe next team tonight. Which will be Caroline.
I don't think we have seen Amerst1 chime in? (I think that is is nickname)? Mike, I hope you encouraged "RKEfan" to join us? He always offers thoughtful comments. "OneMan" knows his football, how about lending your knowledge old pal? Come on "Bleeding Navy"! You always have background and inside info. Let's hear it!
Mike, tell em over on your Salem Facebook page to drop in and join us. Just remind them we are on a mission to openly discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly, of each team in 4a, one team at a time. No bravado, no boasting, "just the facts"! And to please end their post with a projection of the regular season record of the team we are discussing.

Great post I only take issue with one thing. Salem had been the target for schools for twenty years. If they get beat in the regular season the other team storms the field. No difference this year from any other.1. Salem
2. Lake Taylor
3. Chancellor
4. Dinwiddie
5. Hanover
6. Sherando
7. Millbrook
8. Lafayette
9. Woodgrove
10. Eastern View
HM; Amherst Monacan, GW Danville, Dominion, John Champe, Louisa
What's the word on Courtland this year? I know they lose a ton but I can't recall the last time they weren't a solid team. I watched full game film of every one of these teams last year except Champe and Monacan. Chancellor is the most intriguing team to me, on paper they've got as much talent as anybody. LT will be starving when they hit the field. Salem hasn't had this target on their back in a while, be interesting to see how their players respond to being champs, will they get complacent or keep the ball rolling. I'll lean towards the latter. Dinwiddie has Pope and Freeland who are both game changers. Hanover has Cheatum. Sherando has Rivers. Millbrook has Kier and Smith. Woodgrove returns QB(name?). EV has Hunter & Orange. Amherst returns Turner & Page plus lots of lineman.
My HM teams that you shouldn't sleep on are Monacan with Fludd at QB, Dominion with Christ, Richardson, Walker and a young QB that is going to breakout and Louisa with Whalen and Bell running the Wing. That's about all I've got for now. Is it football season yet?
I think putting Salem at number 1 may be premature. They are going to have to show they have rebuilt their offensive and defensive lines. Scrimmages will tell a lot. They are good at skilled positions.
Hope you are right, but Salem's style of play depends on offensive line. They need to be able to run inside
You are right SB, finding replacements for the 3 OL & 4 DL will be huge. Looking at last year's roster there are some good possibilities. That being said, the guys will really have to hit the weight room and Salem will probably have to rely on some Sophomores in spots. If not as starters then certainly as capable backups or what I like to call 1A guys. How the lines gel will really dictate Salem's fortunes, especially early with big tests like Amherst, Northside, and probably William Byrd as well. (Basham is just getting better every week)Hope you are right, but Salem's style of play depends on offensive line. They need to be able to run inside
You may be talking about the Barnette twins, Stephen (WR) & Reggie. (DB) They graduated the year before last and I think Stephen did miss some games his Sr yr due to injury. What was the Salem boy's name that went to UR a few years ago? I think his brother went there also? He may have graduated by now. Wasn't he or his brother banged up right bad and maybe missed a season?
