Man, I remember those days of the old pioneer district former James river football and baseball player here. James river, lexington, natural bridge, parry mccluer, rockbridge, covington, Craig county, and bath county those where some good times, and a very competitive district it always seemed that someone from the pioneer was always contending for some kind of state title. My cousin was on that 88 lexington team that won state. I respect state champs now as I am a huge colonel fan because that's where my kids graduated from and that is the community that I support, but it seemed back then that state champs were a lot harder to get. As I said no disrespect intended on teams that get them now because they are not a cake walk and just handed to you. It just seemed different way back then.

You figure back in those days.. the region C title went through the Pioneer: 1981 PM, 1982 PM, 1983 PM (won state), 1984 Covington (Won State), 1985 Covington, 1986 PM in D2 (won state), 1987 PM in D1 (won state), 1988 Lexington in D2 (won state), 1989 Bath in D1, 1990 PM in D1, 1991 PM in D1 (lost state), 1992 PM in D1. A nice little run if I may say so lol.

I wish those old schools were still with us. You go from 3 schools having 30+ kids come out for football and condense it down to 1 that has 35 kids come out.. it sucks.

Reminds of the Dogwood these days honestly.
