Excited to watch some "Fighting Blues" football this evening.. The "Blues Train" is headed up I-81 to Spotswood High School this afternoon and will scrimmage Spotswood and the Draft, at some point!! Hopefully, the rain will hold off and all three squads will be able to get in some good quality reps.. Due to the forecast of impending wet weather, the "Blues Train" fan base may not be as large tonight as usual but I expect there will be plenty of fan support for a scrimmage.... It should be a fun time and the kids will finally have an opportunity to "knock heads" with someone other than their team mates... I will post back on this thread "My Opinion" after the scrimmage.. Hopefully, we'll have plenty of GREAT things to talk about...
Best of luck to all 3 teams. Prayers to all for safe travels and injury free competition. And as always,
GO BLUES!!!
**Update on the scrimmage(s)....
So, short and sweet, to the point..
The Blues had a pretty good showing tonight IMO... There were some highlights, and as well there were a few low lights...
For the most part, a young Blues team held their own against a couple of pretty good (2A) & (3A) High School football teams, both Offensively and Defensively.. IMO, the biggest battle of the evening for the Blues were the penalties. Mostly holding calls and a few personal fouls, which again, in my opinion, two or three of those were simply good, physical contact plays that had not yet been blown dead...
I think the Blues moved the ball pretty well, not necessarily at will but at times well. The Blues 1st team "O" scored twice against Drafts' 1st team "D".. Draft moved the ball here and there but they were unable to punch it in against a stiff 1st team Blues Defense. There were no scores from PM or Drafts' 2nd team Offense facing the opponents 2nd team "D".
The Blues started the out with their 2nd team Offense against Spotswoods' 2nd team Defense. It was back and forth for both teams with neither team really able to move the ball much..
The Blues 1st team Offense came back on the field and was again able to move the ball pretty good against a "heavy" Spotswoods' 1st team defense however, a few penalties overshadowed several good gains.
The Blues did mix it up a little more than usual and it seemed to catch both opposing defenses a bit off guard. PM's QB made several nice throws. Very accurate, plenty of velocity and moved around well in the pocket, stepping up and moving around when he needed to.
The Blues 1st team Defense held a pretty good Spotswood Offense to minimal gains on the ground but did struggle a little in pass coverage. I think they can/will make the appropriate adjustments and will be fine. The "Spotsy" 1st team "O" moved the ball pretty well late in the contest and they had a great opportunity to score on their last play of the series but the receiver dropped the pass and it fell incomplete. "Spotsy" finally punched one in a little later on a short run and the PAT(kick) was unsuccessful.
Late in the contest we saw the "Spotsy" 1st team Offense move the ball with ease against a very young Blues 2nd and 3rd team "D", eventually scoring on a nice 30 or so yard pass completion in the back of the end zone for a Spotswood touchdown. The PAT (kick) was good and that ended the evening.
IMO, the Blues represented themselves and their new HC pretty well. As with any team, over time I think they will get better and better. Better conditioned, better disciplined and better prepared game by game.. One thing is for sure, "The Fighting Blues" will hit you!!
Not sure how many of you out there were present, but for a "scrimmage", I liked what I saw.
And as always, GO BLUES!!
