Sometimes trends and the past can help us foresee the future.

Since 1987 there have been 58 teams taht have squared off for a state title.

Of those 58 teams, 11 did not qualify for the playoffs the year before. However you cannot really use that in this instance because odds are in favor of a team that won 8 or more games the previous year making the playoffs and given that is a near lock for the playoffs in today's current playoff structure, that rules the DNQ teams out.

Now 19 final participants lost in the region finals or Elite 8 as I'm calling it the previous season but the odds of two teams facing off who lost in the same round the previous season are not great so we look to those who lost in the state semifinals or "Final 4" as I will call it and there would be 10 of those.

Now there have been 7 instances of the runner-up for the title bowing out in the region finals or "Elite 8", that ties the DNQ teams which we have ruled out. Furthermore the runner-up has averaged 9 regular season wins 9 times the previous season which means Lake Braddock who lost to Thomas Dale in 2009 should be your runner-up in 6A in 2016.

As for the team that wins it all? That's a bit tougher.

The champion has averaged 10-0 regular seasons 10 times before winning it all so that leaves us with South or Ocean Lakes... It can't be South because South and Lake Braddock would face off to decide who goes to the finals so then it becomes by default Ocean Lakes.

So it looks like our 6A Final in 2016 will be Ocean Lakes over Lake Braddock
