During the VT/UVa football game Friday night, I heard the name mentioned and that he was from Galax. So obviously he is the older brother of the kid that just got hurt. But is he (the college one) by any chance the guy that almost single-handedly beat Riverheads in the 2015 state championship game?

I remember Galax having a big running back that day also, but it was a defensive guy that was in on every single play and seemed to know what we were going to do before we did it that won the game for them that day. So was that by any chance him?

yup

@longtimerhsfan it was most certainly him. He played well but Spurlin was the key to that game. Peoples had a few decent runs but never got loose for the big breakaway runs he was duly noted for. Great athlete

Steven people's that is currently playing at VT had already graduated the year Galax beat River heads in the state game. It was Dougie the kid that got hurt first round of the playoffs this year that played that game. Although he was the second string back, Charles Harris was the starting TB, but Dougie did have quiet a few carries that day.
Caleb Spurlin was the guy on defense you are thinking of, he is at App state now

The Peoples kid at Virginia Tech is Steven Peoples. He graduated from Galax in 2014 before spending a semester at Fork Union. He never faced Riverheads in his high school career.

The kids that faced Riverheads in 2015 were Charles Harris (RB) and Caleb Spurlin (LB).

Harris is at Wake Forest, although I do not believe he is playing football. Spurlin is at Appalachian State and is most definitely playing football.

Harris isn't at Wake yet, he is back in Galax as of now and plans on trying to play at Wake next year.

Steven Peoples has already graduated when that game was played, Charles Harris run the ball mostly that day with Dougie feeling in some

Last time I spoke to him, he was leaving Bluefield heading to Wake. His immediate plans must have changed.
I see him on a weeky basis in Galax working out and he told me that he planned on attending next year and so yeah his plans probably got delayed.

How bad was Dougie injured? Will it require surgery or just rehab? Really hope he doesn't sustain long term affects from the injury.

Spurlin is definitely the guy I had in mind. As soon as I saw that name, I remembered it. Thanks guys. I could see him making it as a college player.

If you get a chance Google his Huddle highlights. He was a big reason they had so much success running the ball

I met a gentleman at that game from Galax. Never got his name but he was a super nice guy. I think he said he owned a hardware store in Galax. He was filling my wife and I in on the players throughout the game. Wonderful fanbases at both of those schools.

The Spurlin kid was just the difference when they played Essex at King George. Just a beast. He was the 1A player of the year, well deserved.
