They have done pulled 2 upsets is this a team to watch out for? Remember they played James Monroe in a shootout earlier in the year and they caught my attention then... I knew I should of picked them in the pickem contest I changed it last minute...
Gemonta Jackson who is committed to ODU and one of their best if not the best player on the team missed some time midseason due to injury and that hurt the team and is why their record was what it was. They are definitely not a team to sleep on.
I went to the Kettle Run game and seen him play he is a real good player... Even though Kettle Run was the better team he found a way to make sure his team won.... Lafayette will be a tough task but they can win also....
Here's the thing with Petersburg...real tough schedule for a 3A team. North Stafford, Thomas Dale, James Monroe, Meadowbrook, Hopewell and Dinwiddie were their losses. 4 strong teams that were 5A or 6A. Their district is loaded with bigger schools so it's hard to judge them once the post season hits and they play teams that haven't faced a schedule like they did. I don't think they beat Lafayette, but they give them something to think about.
Was he out for all Six losses including Hopewell and Dinwiddie? I heard Kettle Run was pretty banged up by the end of the season and Poquoson's defense was very suspect and outright bad against the pass when I saw them against us and Smithfield.
Kette Run was banged up from the Eastern View game the week before. KR was the better team on that field that day but made too many mistakes and I believe some coaching mistakes caused them to loose that 38-13 lead before going into the 4th. Petersburg was remarkable in the 4th and I was shocked at the level of play they played at in the 4th...
Jackson played against Dinwiddie. Missed the Thomas Dale and Hopewell games. He is very fast. The entire team is quick. If they get to the second level or outside they can take it to the house. They played us tough, but we eventually wore them down.
The Petersburg playmakers are very fast and as slippery as greased eels. They ran through Poquoson's line like dysentery. Lafayette has not seen that kind of speed this year, at least not in the Bay Rivers. The Rams have to control the line of scrimmage and contain the outside. Any daylight and Petersburg may go for six. Lafayette will be tested this coming Saturday.
I know Hopewell beat Petersburg, and I know Lafayette blew out Hopewell. If you want to use the common opponent approach, Lafayette beat Poquoson 35-14, and Petersburg blew out Poquoson 56-16.
I agree it should be interesting. Lafayette's 1st string defense has allowed 5 tds all year against the speed of Petersburg. How physical a defense do they have? You know the Lafayette offense will pound away running and passing, and they have improved since the Poquoson game.
Petersburg had three starters out against Dale and Hopewell. Can judge by those games. Watch the JM vs. Petersburg or Matoaca vs. Petersburg game if you can get them. This will give you a better idea.
Petersburg was one of the games I saw this year , they have four burners , count em 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , oh and that's their numbers as well . Very Quick !!!
I can tell you this. They could have easily won more games. Throw the records and stat sheets out the window. If they have all of their talent on the field, you will be lucky to out score them and come away with a victory.
With the exception of what I have read I know very little about you guys. I have been impressed with Petersburg all year. They have no depth and because of that they sometimes struggle in the second half.
To win you need to get up early and pound on them the whole game. If they have a chance to win in the fourth watch out.
Defensively you have to defend the edge. They don't pass much or well. If you press they will take a shot deep and have the speed to blow by you.
Petersburg lost to James Monroe, Dinwiddie and Meadowbrook at full strength. There other three losses were without four of their best players. They are fairly healthy now.
With your experience and talent you should beat Petersburg. Depending on your start you could blow them out.
Agreed. The Rams will have to stick with the ground and pound to keep the Petersburg offense off the field. I saw the JM game and Petersburg has some very fast kids. The Ram defense will will really need to step up because if Petersburg is at full strength, they can really run the rock. Certainly better than JM and I know the Rams don't want to see those guys again. But this is the playoffs and that's where you're at right now. GL Friday.
The Lafayette coach said the same thing- the best defense is to keep the ball and pound away on the ground, which is Lafayette's style. On defense protect the corners and always keep on the QB. Lafayette this year has really harassed the QB but none are quite the speed of Petersburg . The X factor is many of Lafayette's current player remember well one year ago this same weekend, same time, same place they lost in OT to JM. They want no repeat.
Lafayette you are true gentleman and good fan. Good luck this weekend. I think I will be making the trip to Williamsburg. I know many of the Petersburg players and appreciate how hard they have worked.
May you and your family have a blesses Thanksgiving. Hope Dinwiddie and Lafayette get to hook up and get at it in the near future.
When you make the trip stop over on the home side and say hello before the game starts- I will in about the 2 nd row at the 45 yard line with a blue Lafayette jacket - no glasses, 6', 195 and thinning (a lot) brown hair and probably yakking as usual! I always get to the games. 30 minutes before KO.
Thanks- this year's team throws the ball better than all if the recent ones. The QB is 3 year starter 6'2 with over 1000 yards passingly on a power running team. He also can run pretty well. I am sure they have scouted this and may not load the box. I am trying to see how a defense will cover 3 burners effectively. This game maybe high scoring like their JM game.
Navy and Lafayette, I hope to be there, too. Not sure yet.
Navy, I planned to go to a game somewhere Friday night, but last Friday set my lung problem back a little, If I go out on a cold night again, I'm afraid of the head injury I may have to deal with from my wife. I believe I will just ride up to Dinwiddie and watch the basketball scrimmage with Manchester. It won't hurt as much.
Best wishes for the holiday tomorrow to both of you, and the other posters.
