Wow, I dont get into the Pickems but Im surprised at the picks for Appomattox when the media and newspapers are claiming Heritage is best in area this year. Well....I have heard that before. I had to LAUGH the other day when Channel 10 news out of Roanoke said this Appomattox team is been said by many that they are better than last years team. That dude dont have a clue about Appomattox football to say that.
I love how the media and fans crown teams as the best before the season even starts. Not taking anything away from Heritage but, they have to play (and beat) some really good teams this year before they can be crowned as the best. Heck, that goes for any team. After all, the game is played on the field and not on paper.

Despite their close proximity, I wouldn't say they're huge rivals. Over the years, they have often played in different classifications and different districts. Riverheads once had a great rivalry with the Rockbridge Rebels. More recently, Buffalo Gap seems to be their chief rival. Draft and Wilson have had a pretty strong rivalry, I believe. Some of the guys that have been here longer than I have can probably explain it better.

As a "younger" person on here I would definitely say they have a "rivalry." That might not be the best word for it, but outside of Wilsons run a few years ago Draft has been the team who seemed to give Riverheads the most losses through the years.

The Draft-Wilson rivalry gained much of its steam in my opinion from us going to middle school together. Which no longer happens, but that's what I feel fueled it. Of course we all have our "stereotypes" that we assign to the county schools which I feel also fuels this.

I feel Draft-Waynesboro is a bigger rivalry than Draft-RHS an I feel Wilson-RHS is a bigger one than Wilson-Draft. From midgets to high school RHS was the school we hated the most to lose to.

That's my opinion at least.

Not to be mean, as just stating facts, but I would say Wilson is Stuart's Draft biggest rival as in the animosity, but before about 10 years ago, Draft won about 35-40 straight in the series.

As for Riverheads, I would say biggest rival is Gap

But that's from the Draft perspective.

I feel from Wilson perspective you aren't ours in terms of animosity. I think from going to middle school with each other for so many years it leveled it out some because we formed a lot of friendships.

But with Riverheads that's the only school that it seems we HATE losing to from midgets to high school.

An I believe Draft won every game from around '83 to '04.

We had a couple long losing streaks to county rivals that we didn't finally end til 05

Trevor is correct from our end. Riverheads is who we want to beat more than anyone. Doesn't matter the sport. Draft would be next but most of us do not dislike Draft as much as Draft dislikes us. It's funny this came up. Talking to a couple Draft parents this week after the game, I asked if they felt about Riverheads like we do and have they passed Wilson as their "hated" school yet? Both said yes, but they still hate Wilson lol.

Everyone had long winning streaks against us for years. I believe we are 8-11 with Draft since '99 and have won 7 out of the last 8.

I can agree with that. For me personally it's not Wilson, just what it seemed like as a whole. And I could have been off on numbers for numbers of years, but I would have bet it was at least close to 30, but I could be wrong

Gunz, I think it was 27 straight until 2005. I know it was a loooooong time. We had never beaten Lee until 2013 and we played them a lot.

It was a VERY long time GUNZ. I remember those season opening beat downs very well. My sophomore year was the first time in my life I witnessed our high school team beat Draft
