If, between innings, a new player throws warm up pitches, but then the " still in the game pitcher" takes the mound and pitches, is this permitted?

I see no reason why it wouldn't be.

A pitcher isn't replaced until the coach informs the umpire or the player takes the rubber and the ball becomes live. Neither happened here.

My esteemed sources tell me that it's OK for a different guy to warm up, but only one player can warm up.
