Congratulations to Parry McCluer High School senior K.J. Cook on winning the state indoor championship in the shot put, with the Blues’ boys sweeping the top three placings in the event at the Group 1A state meet on Wednesday at Roanoke College.
Cook’s throw of 56 feet, 0.75 inches set a new school record and a new Virginia High School League indoor record, breaking the previous VHSL record by 3.75 inches. Also turning in outstanding performances were Cook’s teammates. Junior Josh Fischer finished second with a personal-record toss of 52-6.5, and senior Jeremy Nelson placed third with a throw of 49-3.5.
