No surprise, Parry McCluer Senior Thrower, KJ Cook and teammate, Junior Joshua Fischer again took the #1 and #2 spots in Shot and Discus at the "District Only" Meet held @ Parry McCluer HS on 04-19-17.. Cook and Fischer were both scheduled to sit out the meet until a "NEW" VHSL "rule change" has made it possible for a meet to be a "State Qualifier" with a minimum of now (5) teams competing from the previous rule of (8).. Cook and Fischer have both already qualified for the State Meet in previous meets but opted to throw anyway hoping to use the "Home Field" advantage to try and best their marks.. Neither one did. Both were pretty conservative, yet consistent in their throws in the shot and Discus competition.. Fischer had one Shot throw of 54' and change but failed on the follow through and scratched what would have been his best throw of the day... Cook was also on his previous marks until his final throw in the Discus in which he had an amazing heave of 175'- 6", but he to failed on the follow through and scratched his best chunk of the day... That throw would have bested his previous best heave as well as set the new school record and would have also broken the current state record which is 173' and change.. These two are feeding off each other like Sharks on chum!!! Fischer, still nursing an aggravated shoulder injury from last football season seems to be closing the distance in the Shot battle but Cook seems to have walked off in the Discus event.. The kid is STRONG, has GREAT form and he just has what it takes.. Stay tuned!!
