Continuing his RECORD BREAKING season, on Friday, April 28th Parry MCCluer Senior Thrower K J COOK had an AWESOME day at the Augusta Invitationals TAKING THE FIRST PLACE SPOTS IN BOTH THE SHOT AND DISCUS EVENTS breaking his own record and setting a NEW school record in the SHOT-PUT event with an impressive heave of 58' - 1" which surpasses his old record of 56''- 3/4" which he set at the STATE INDOOR MEET in February.. The NEW RECORD BREAKING THROW FROM COOK QUALIFIES HIM FOR THE NEW BALANCE NATIONALS COMPETITION WHICH WILL BE HELD IN GREENSBORO, NC IN JUNE... COOK IS THE FIRST (AND TO DATE THE ONLY) PARRY MCCLUER ATHLETE TO EVER QUALIFY FOR THE NATIONAL COMPETITION!! COOK also BROKE his previous record (165' 3") set just the week before in the DISCUS COMPETITION with another spectacular heave of 169' - 2"..
Cooks team mate and Junior, JOSHUA FISCHER also had a strong day with a good showing finishing in the fourth place spot in the DISCUS competition by setting his "NEW PERSONAL BEST THROW" with a heave of 138' - 6".. FISCHER, a right handed thrower was sporting a shoulder harness (brace) and is still recovering from an irritating left shoulder injury he suffered at a football camp back in early April.. Being somewhat conservative with the 12 pound hunk of steel he placed fifth in the Shot event with a respectable chunk of 47' -1 1/2" , well off his best mark of over 52 feet... Fischer says the shoulder is feeling better and the muscle seems to be healing okay as he looks to get back to his regular practice routine and being more competitive in the coming weeks.. Fischer says his goal is to hit the 55 foot mark by the STATE MEET... GOOD LUCK TO YOU YOUNG MAN, I believe you WILL hit that mark and here's to hoping that you heel up fine and end up strong(er)... GO BLUES!!!
