Parry McCluer Senior Shot-Put Thrower KJ Cook added to his last years Outdoor Discus State Championship on Wednesday, February 22 at Roanoke College as he also claimed the 2017 VHSL Combined 1A- 2A State Indoor Track and Field Championship with a "Personal Best" throw of 56' 3/4" on his last heave of the day.. That throw BREAKS not only the PMHS Indoor Shot-Put RECORD and also SURPASSES what was the current standing VHSL STATE INDOOR Shot-Put RECORD of 55' 9' which has stood since 2014.... CONGRATULATIONS to KJ COOK on his RECORD BREAKING accomplishment!!
Claiming the 2nd Place spot was Cook's team mate and PMHS Junior, Joshua Fischer with another "Personal Best" heave for him of 52' 6", also on his last throw of the day...That throw surpasses his previous best of nearly a foot... Fischer's 2nd throw of the day was a surprising heave that surpassed the 53' mark however, he was unable to complete his follow through and fouled, thus scratching the throw.. Cook and Fischer have battled and motivated each other all season and it looks as if the battle will continue into the upcoming spring Outdoor session.. CONGRATULATIONS to Joshua Fischer
Notching the 3rd Place spot in the competition was another Parry McCluer Senior, Jeremy Nelson with his best throw of the day coming on his 1st throw of the finals with a heave of 47' 3 1/2", still a little off of his personal best but good enough to make it a 1,2,3 showing for the Fighting Blues Throwers and the "Blues Brothers" as they have recently been called.. CONGRATULATIONS to Jeremy Nelson... With the three PMHS throwers advancing to the Outdoor session it is definitely going to get interesting as they battle each other in not only the Shot-Put event but also in the discus throw.. As it stands, if all three can stay healthy they should be well ahead of the competition and could well bring home another state title... or two!!! GOOD LUCK TO THE "BLUES BROTHERS" !!
