Parry McCluer senior thrower Josh Fischer stepped up BIG(not just in size)yet again on Saturday, April 28th at the "Blacksburg Invitational Track and Field Meet" held at Blacksburg High School..
Despite the warmer temperatures, it was SUPER WINDY day in Blacksburg with several Easy-Up tents, chairs, blankets and trash blowing all over the place but that didn't appear to hinder Fischer too much in the Shot-Put event as he threw consistently in the mid 50's from the start.
On his final heave of the day, Fischer chunked the steel shot to a mark of 53'-11", a bit off of his personal best but under the windy conditions still respectable, and still good enough to seal the deal and take the #1 spot with the next closest competitor coming in at 47' and some change..
In the Discus event Fischer, who despite finishing in the #2 spot behind Blacksburgs' Solomon Goush had another impressive day from the circle with a "NEW PERSONAL BEST" heave of the 1.6 KG saucer of 151'-5" on his final fling of the day thus sealing the deal for another 1,2 finish for the Fighting Blues Senior"!!
As the old saying goes in the Discus event "The Wind Is Your Friend", "IF" you can get it up and "IF" you have a good release with minimal wobbling, it'll balance out and just keep on going..
All in all a good day for Fischer under the circumstances as the Blues top thrower heads into the next few weeks looking to better his mark in both events before heading into the Regional and State meets and as he gears up for the NEW BALANCE NATIONALS Meet in Greensboro in June.
CONGRATULATIONS again to you Josh and best of luck to you from here on,
And as always, GO BLUES!!
