Springers always seem so lucky to get a tough draw in the opening round. Fortunately won, squeaked past MBK! I knew from the beginning that they would be tough. That huge offensive line and that running game seem very diffcult to stop. They were killing the Springer defense up front. Going up 22-0, we were in serious trouble. It looked like we weren't going to stop the onslaught either in the 3rd qtr. even though our offense was beginning to click.
29-14 was the score with just about 8 minutes left in the game with MBK firmly in control. The Springers went to the spread (basically) no huddle offense and the passing game caught on fire!!. HS scores making it 29-21 with less than 5 minutes left. MBK went on another drive gaining a couple of 1st downs and stalled deep in Springer territory.
With about 4 minutes left in the game, Springer offense put together a 2 minute drive and scored! Score, 29-27. The mad scramble enused for the 2pt conversion and Marcus Taylor hit a wide open Felton Davis in the endzone and he dropped the ball! Score remained 29-27 MBK. With a little more than a minute to play, HS executed a perfect onsided kick and recorverd the ball at about the 40yd line. With 28 seconds to play Carter hits Greg Dortch for a 33 yard td toss + xtra pt. to put HS up 34-29. MBK got the ball back but was unable to captialize!!! The game was truely unbelievable. Elated on the Springer side and I know the other side had to be in shock. It looked like some of the MBK players dropped to their knees in tears at the end of the game.
One helluva comeback for the Springers and one helluva tough MBK team. MBK players have nothing to be down about because you are young and bring back a ton for next year. They will be a force to be reconed with next year!!
