Norfolk Academy at Fork Union
Norfolk Academy lost a heartbreaker against St Christopher's after allowing 24 points in the 4th quarter. The Saints dominated up until that point. Fork Union is still searching for their 1st win after losing to St Stephens St Agnes by a touchdown in their home opener. Sophomore Drue Hackenberg had 101 yards rushing while passing for 130 yards and a touchdown. I like Fork Union to get their 1st win at home.
Episcopal at Collegiate
Episcopal School travels to Richmond seeking to avenge a 16-7 lost to Collegiate last season. After a disappointing 5-4 finish last season, the Maroon have won both of their games to start the season under new head coach Mark Moroz. They have two of the top players in the state in Notre Dame commit Litchfield Ajavon and Stanford commit Salim Turner-Muhammad. Collegiate is looking to bounce back after losing their State championship game rematch to Flint Hill. The Cougars like to mix the the run and passing games with Atinde Budd and Trey Boll. I think both defenses will step up but I like Episcopal by a touchdown.
North Cross at Blue Ridge
These two perennial playoff contenders were both absent from the initial Top 4 rankings released by the VISAA. North Cross is trending in the right direction winning three straight games. Sophomore quarterback Gabe Zappia is coming off a game in which he threw six passing touchdowns. Receiver Zae Baines is one of the top juniors in Virginia. Blue Ridge has a star quarterback in Xavier Kane whose best performance was a win over Hargrave Academy in which he completed 19 of 35 passes for 322 and three touchdowns while adding 19 carries for 245 and two touchdowns. The Barons have played a Blue Ridge defeated North Cross on the road last season and I see them getting the win at home.
Nansemond Suffolk Academy at Atlantic Shores Christian
The Saints continue to roll thru their 2018 schedule after defeating Portsmouth Christian last week. They have scored 40+ points in four straight contests. George Pettaway is averaging nearly 160 yards rushing per game. Zac Morris already has eight touchdown receptions and three interceptions. Seth Townsend and Joshua Hoerster have combined for 200 tackles. The Seahawks lost to Christchurch 12-6 last week while Nansemond Suffolk Academy defeated Christchurch 41-6 earlier in September. Atlantic Shores Christian generated only 200 yards in offense last week and a similar output this week will not be enough to hang with Nansemond Suffolk Academy.
Trinity Episcopal at Flint Hill
The defending State champions have yet to play a competitive game in their 1st three wins including a 42-0 win in a rematch with Collegiate who they defeated in the State championship game. Seniors Miles Thompson, Trey Rucker and Jordan Houston have the Huskies looking unstoppable in the few full quarters they have played. Flint Hill has won 14 games in a row but they cant afford to sit on their accolades against a Trinity Episcopal team that has proven they can score. Titans quarterback Taylor Eggers has 1100 yards passing with 12 touchdown passes. Flint Hill appears to be even better than their undefeated team from last season and they should improve their winning streak to 15.
Bishop O Connell at St Christopher's
The Saints have won two games since last Friday with a thrilling come from behind win over Norfolk Acadedmy and a win over Trinity Episcopal from a suspended game in early September. Quarterback Patrick Routsis threw both game-winning touchdown passes. They Saints will have their homecomig game this weekend against a confident Bishop O Connell who defeated Blue Ridge for their 1st win of the season. The Barons use 6-foot-4 receiver Jahmal Banks down the field and they have a big offensive line led by Jack Murphy and Gage Maddy. Trinity Episcopal is the one common opponent between the two schools and both games were high scoring. I expect this one to be high scoring as well with the Saints winning at home.
Norfolk Christian at Fredericksburg Christian
The Ambassadors are 2-1 however they haven't played a game since since the 1st week of September. They were on a 2-game win streak before taking a break. Fredericksburg Christian has played two games since the last Norfolk Christian game including a road win at Sidwell Friends last week. Fredericksburg Christian will try to pound the ball with running back Cannon Zylonis while Norfolk Christian is led by quarterback Andrew Allgood. Norfolk Christian won big over Fredericksburg Christian last year but I think the Eagles will get revenge in a close matchup.
