Bruton sophomore Anthony Henderson Jr. (6-foot-0, 160) is clearly the top college prospect in the Bay Rivers District. He has close to double-digit Power 4 offers including offers from Penn State, Syracuse. Duke, Maryland, and Marshall. He was selected 1st team All Bay Rivers after catching 64 passes for 1045 yards and 14 touchdowns. He had nearly half of the Panthers team total receptions. He added an interception for a touchdown while also returning a punt and kickoff for scores.
Senior Cre’shawn Keitt (5-foot-9, 220) may not start on the defensive line if he plays college football but he is football player. He had two sacks for Bruton and several tackles for loss against York. He had 39 tackle and three sacks in seven games.
The top D1 prospect in the Bay Rivers is Poquoson sophomore lineman Carter Jones (6-foot-6, 280) who already has offers from Liberty, Old Dominion, William and Mary, and Delaware. Jones will receive Power 4 offers as he is on the radar of schools such as Virginia Tech, Penn State, Clemson and Virginia. Against Lafayette, Jones plug the interior on defense and helped the Bull Islanders break some runs on offense.
Junior linebacker Austin Conley had 11 tackles against Lafayette while adding a sack. He finished the regular season with 16.5 tackles for loss including eight sacks. He has good size (6-foot-0, 190) and makes plays in all three phases. He has a passing touchdown, a fumble recovery for a touchdown, five rushing touchdowns and he was credited with two blocked punts.
Brayden Smalls (5-foot-7, 160) does a lot of good things for Lafayette including running back, kick returner, and punt returner. He was selected the Bay Rivers Offensive Player of the Year. Smalls was credited with 1151 yards and 19 touchdowns during the regular season. He recently committed to William & Mary as a preferred walk-on.
I first met junior Naye'ron Hudson (5-foot-9, 155) at a University of Virginia football camp working out with the defensive backs. He has track star speed and he might receive some interests in two sports. Hudson reached the endzone against Poquoson on a 20-yard touchdown reception.
Sophomore Baum Hogge (6-foot-2, 210) is the Lafayette quarterback but he doubles as an All-District linebacker. He was selected 1st team All Bay Rivers on offense and defense. Hogge played as a freshman and I ha him as a top performer at the Old Dominion football camp. He had 73 tackles and eight sacks heading into the playoffs.
Edge rusher Daniel Jackson (6-foot-4, 200) made more than a half dozen tackles and had an interception against Poquoson. He was selected the Bay Rivers Defensive Player of the Year. During the regular season, Jackson finished with 84 Tackles including 13 tackles for loss and 13 sacks. He has great length and speed, and he has played at a high level since his freshman year.
Senior Joseph Williams (6-foot-1, 190) also received a preferred walk-on to compete as a long snapper for the Tribe with the chance to earn a scholarship. Williams only plays long snapper and he is one of the areas best in that role.
Tabb running back Landon Howard (5-foot-6, 155) had the game of his life against Hopewell in the 1st round of the playoffs. The senior finished with 35 carries, for 277 yards and three touchdowns in an upset win over Hopewell. He followed that with 30 carries for 234 yards and two touchdowns against Norcom. For the season he totaled over 1600 yards rushing.
Tabb sophomore Tyler Maddock (6-foot-4, 260) improved thru out the season. He was one of the Tigers linemen that helped running back Landon Howard gain 500+ yards in two playoff games. I'm interested to see how he develops over the Spring and into the summer recruiting camps.
Receiver Jaren Mitchell (5-foot-10, 160) stood out with a pick and touchdown reception in the game I attended against Smithfield. The Tabb senior finished with 14 carries for 218 yards out of the backfield and added 29 receptions for 369 yards receiving.
York sophomore Anthony Custis (5-foot-11, 160) played a variety of positions from running back, quarterback and receiver. Against Bruton, he played primarily at running back and had 72 yards rushing.
Freshman quarterback Adrian Wilson (5-foot-10, 150) got a chance to start for York on varsity in his 1st high school season and can only grown with experience.
