Emory & Henry did not offer any prospects at the conclusion of their Newport News camp and will continue their evaluation in the coming weeks.
Quarterbacks
The quarterback back group is usually one of the smallest in terms of prospects at most camps, but the Emory & Henry camp had a strong showing. I felt they had the most talent of all the groups.
Kempsville 2026 Josh Hawley was always 1st in line for the drills and took over as the leader of the group. He was the most polished throwing the football in the sessions I watched whether it was a crossing pattern, sideline pass or deep corner post. He will be in consideration for my Prospect Watch camp MVP awards. Hawley should have a big year in 2025 he is attracting interests including interests from Emory & Henry.
Grafton rising sophomore Xzavieon Hendricks (6-foot-2, 200) As a freshman, he passed for 643 yards with four touchdowns while averaging nearly 20 yards a completion in four starts. Hendricks has a strong arm and will only get better as he hits the camp scene this summer.
Smithfield quarterback Kyle Buggs (5-foot-11, 176) is the son of former Surry State Champion coach Kermit Buggs who also coached at Penn State. Buggs, a rising junior started as a sophomore and helped Smithfield reach the playoffs last year before his season ended with an injury. He had 650 yards passing with six touchdowns in half a season.
Running Back
Preston Hall (5-foot-8, 167) was the second Kings Fork running back I saw this month that made my Prospect Watch article. Hall is the leading returning running back for the Bulldogs with 201 yards on 32 carries with two scores. Hall also runs track, and he had one of the fastest 40-yard dash times at the combine.
JaShon McIntyre was also in the running for fastest 40-yard dash times and the 2026 running back was excellent catching passes downfield. McIntyre (5-foot-6, 134) may not be an every down back but he can present matchup problems in space with his speed and quickness. He says he has an offer from Duke and William & Mary.
Norview 2026 Zy'Quez Williams (5-foot-9, 171) was 2nd team All-District at running back for the Pilots. He won MVP at a YouAreAthlete Regional event and was selected to compete in the National event in Houston. Williams says he has interest from Old Dominion, Virginia, Hampton, and North Carolina Central.
Pass Catchers
Bruton 2026 Troy Walson (6-foot-4, 210) was voted 2nd team All-Region at Tight End. He had 13 receptions for 200 yards and two touchdowns. He also played Defensive End recording eight sacks with 12 tackles for loss. He has interest from James Madison, Marist, Wake Forest, Old Dominion East Carolina, Emory and Henry and Campbell.
Offensive Linemen
I felt Tabb lineman Tyler Maddock (6-foot-7, 293) was the top overall lineman. He controlled all the one-on-one matchups I watched. he used his arms to keep the pass rusher in-front of him while using his size to make it difficult to get around his frame. Maddock is a rising junior and he recently received an offer from Syracuse. Other Power 4 schools showing interest include Virginia Tech, Virginia, Old Dominion and Rutgers.
Hickory lineman Anderson Bloomquist (6-foot-4, 298) goes under the sleeper title as a player I can see start to receive interest. Bloomquist is a quiet type who may just need to show his nasty size to pique the interests of college coaches.
Menchville senior Jhase Wright (6-foot-3, 340) recently won the Offensive Line MVP at a VTO camp and he did a great job holding off the pass rushers at the 757 camp. Wright might be get more interest if he can shed a few pounds to get to the ideal weight a college coach desire. However, his weight didn't seem to affect his movement or getting into his protection stance.
Defensive End
Oscar Smith 2026 Malik Williams (6-foot-0, 175) quickness was on display as an outside pass rusher. Williams worked out with the Edge rushers, but he measured out as a linebacker. He also had a great catch when working out at tight end. On the Tigers State championship team, Williams was credited with five sacks and 19 tackles for loss while recovering five fumbles.
Defensive Back
Rising senior Kamaari Kirby (6-foot-0, 155) had one of the fastest 40-yard dash (hand time) at the camp. He was one of the most productive quarterbacks in the 757 area as a junior passing for 2070 yards and 19 passing touchdowns while adding 689 yards rushing with 12 touchdowns. Kirby has interests from Old Dominion, North Carolina, William & Mary and Christopher Newport.
Best of the Rest
Norview rising junior Amari Martin (6-foot-3, 202) was listed as a receiver and had good agility numbers. He may grow into a tight end. Oscar Smith edge Jaleel Dekle (5-foot-9, 200) had three sacks and seven tackles for loss in the Tigers defensive line rotation. Dekle has D3 interests which may be his best fit if he stays on the defensive line. I like what I saw from Hickory 2026 cornerback Evan White (6-foot-0, 171). He had good numbers in the 40-yard dash, shuttle, and broad jump.
