Michael Gbinije (6-foot-6) Jr Benedictine
Former VCU coach, and current Alabama head
coach Anthony Grant was sitting front row to see Gbinije. An offer may come soon after Gbinije was voted game MVP with 29 points, seven rebound, four blocks, and three steal effort. Michael was 3 of 6 from 3-point land and he provided the Slamfest with the first slam dunk of the evening. A 4-star
recruit according to Rivals.Com, Gbinije can play either the 3 or 4 in college. A smooth player with quickness and jumping ability, Gbinije is one of the elite players in the state of
Virginia. He is playing much better than he did last year when several injuries
limited his time on the floor.

Travis McKie (6-foot-7)
John Marshall
McKie may have had the best
performance at the Slamfest. McKie quietly posted 37 points and 15 rebounds. He
made two treys among his 14 for 20 shooting. McKie is under-appreciated at times
even though he has led John Marshall to back-to-back state semi-finals. Travis
is headed to Wake Forest and still does the dirty work to gets his points in the
offense. Travis is not the first option in the Justices offense but he still
scores 20+ every single night.

R.J Price (6-foot-1)
Benedictine
How strong is R.J Price? Try nine rebounds from the point guard
position. Price was Benedcitine's leading rebounder and he had three assists
(zero turnovers). Price likes to drive inside and he can shoot it from 12
feet and in. Price is physical and attacks the basket. He gets to the free
throw where he was 5-5 from to finish with nine points and nine
rebounds.

Brandon Britt (6-foot-1)
Sr Atlantic Shores
the William & Mary recruit had a
breakout game against Deep Run in Slamfest VIII with 10 treys and 35 points. He
made a command performance this year with 26 points after halftime to help
Shores defeat Deep Run 68-62. Britt took over in the second half
by constantly breaking down the defense for layups Even when the defense
knows he's going to drive, Britt is still able to get to the basket by creating
enough space to get off a shot. He also made 8 of 10 from the foul line--a
trait you want from your point guard.

Justin Watson (6-foot-1) Jr
Atlantic Shores
Watson finished with 21 points and eight rebounds
in the win over Deep Creek. Watson is playing better than he did earlier in the
season and is moving more when he doesn't have the ball. Strictly an outside
shooter while playing for Lake land High School, Watson now looks
to drive inside instead of settling for the three. Still waiting to see how
the rest of his game develops.

Breon Key (6-foot-2) Jr Phoebus
Key may have been the biggest surprise at the Slamfest taking home the MVP award
over Rivals.Com 5-Star P.J Hairston. Key had a great all-around game finishing with 17
points, six assists, five rebounds, four steals, and three blocks. Key can defend on the perimeter and he
has a football mentality. He's physical and his strength makes his
driving ability an asset. He went 4 of 5 from the charity stripe. Key can
help a team in so many ways. His best attribute may be that he is a winner who
will do what it takes to get the W.

Brian Darden (6-foot-1) Jr
Phoebus
Darden was the leading scorer for the undefeated Phantoms
in their 84-76 win over Dudley (NC) featuring UNC recruit P.J Hairston. Darden
made three treys and was 8-10 from the free throw line. He has great range and the green
light to shoot it from almost anywhere across the halfcourt line. Brian has a
def handle so he can easily blow by his defender and he is a able to make
the impossible shot in traffic. His two assists from the point guard position is
a concern but he is more of a combo guard than the traditional John Stockton
type.

Dashawn
Stitt
(6-foot-7) Jr Phoebus
Stitt had
a quiet game (9 points and 7 rebounds) but it was his two baskets late in the
fourth quarter that showed how far he has come from being a reserve as a sophomore.
He had a block shot and two big baskets (including a three) down
the stretch when Phoebus was trying to maintain a slim lead. He is one of
the better shooting big men among the 2011 class I've seen this year and he adds
points on alley-oops and via slamming home rebounds. Stitt is very thin and he
is definitely a wing player at this point suited for the three position.

Jay
Johnson
(6-foot-1) Sr Deep Run
I loved Jay Johnson's hustle and he
plays fundamental basketball. Johnson has a nice touch from outside and he
nailed three treys against Atlantic Shores finishing the game with an impressive
stat line of 15 points, five rebounds, six assists and 6-9 from
the field.

Lucas Dyer (6-foot-5) So Deep Run
In a
game with 44 three-point baskets attempted, Dyer's role was limited to only 16
minutes. However, the post player scored all eight of his points and blocked
three shots after halftime. Will need to grow more to play the post in college
but he has two years to get bigger and better. Worth keeping an eye
on.
