Didn't know how Giles would respond a week after the big game and loss to Glenvar. It seemed Giles was a bit on their heels at first and did seem flat, not their best game. Radford was good on offense with lots of talent led by Finley, but the problem is their defense. The Radford defense is not very good against a physical running team. Giles controlled the ball the whole game and time of possession was heavily in Giles favor. Giles managed the game in 3 to 4 yards at a time and converted a few 4th down conversions that Radford simply could not stop. Overall, a decent game with the better team winning not really playing their best game. Radford is a good team and I think can make a run in single A, but they have to tighten up the D if they plan on making it very far. I believe Radford can and will give Glenvar a lot of trouble with their spread offense and good skill players and could potentially win a shoot out with Glenvar. Glenvar is good on the D-line, but with the spread of Radford it will likely neutralize that advantage. Radford presents a serious match up challenge for Glenvar and I think it will be a very close ball game.

I can say that Giles has weathered the storm with the exception of a tough loss to Glenvar. With 5 teams over the last 7 weeks having a bye before they played Giles. In the last 3 weeks having a short week of only 4 days to prepare for their toughest opponent Glenvar after a hard fought game against Galax and then beat Radford last night. We will see how things go the next 3 weeks with what should be a couple of very easy games against Floyd and East Mont and then a slightly tougher game to end the season against an improved Auburn squad. Giles should be fairly healthy going into the play-offs with a chance to rest some players over the next couple of weeks.

If Giles could stop Radford spread offense, I'm confident Glenvar can. Remember #2 torched Giles secondary. Also #7 will be in the lineup. He has 5 interceptions and #37 with 3 interceptions. Stopping Finley and Grant would be a tough!

Like always u don't listen. Giles had trouble stopping g the spread offense. Glenver will have trouble also.

Nobody torched anybody. He had a few catches and a good run after catch to set up the game winning FG. Glenvar does not have a very good running game. They have to have a good passing game to beat a good team. the problem with that is, sometimes the passing game isn't working. QB isn't having the greatest night, a couple of drops, and they could be in trouble. You remember game 10 last year? 25 yds rushing, 22 yds passing, 47 yds total offense. only 2 first downs for the entire game. Radford missed a very short FG at the end of regulation last year and another extra point length FG in overtime against Glenvar last year. I think Radford is better than they were last year, and Glenvar is not quite as good as they were last year, so Glenvar should be a little concerned about Radford. Should be a good one. Our guy might bring the horn over and set up on Radford's side. you never know. And one thing for you Radford fans and players, your coach cost you a chance at winning that game last night. Finley was amazing to watch, what an athlete. The Bobcats played a good game.

Mannschild you don't read very well do you? Lol

He actually gave you guys some credit but pointed out that Giles struggled to stop it and you guys might to. So in reality he's giving some credit to you and some to Radford, but I guess it takes a little common sense to notice that

I'm taking it that Grant didn't even play?? If he is in the lineup against Glenvar then that will be a very tough test for Glenvar. Radford needs Grant for some ball control offense because Glenvar will score on almost every possession IMO. If Grant is not in the game..too many weapons for Glenvar will beat a one man highlight reel. I doubt Finely can make big play after big play all game long against a good defense that has learned to key/contain on the best players as they did against Giles #25 and #2..

Trevor he has no common sense. I think he is just a young kid who has a lot of love for his #7 lol. I'm glad someone knows a bit about football and can understand a post.

Actually rewards I'm not sure Radford is not better just spreading the field and leaving ball in Finley hands all night. He is amazing and almost impossible to stop in space. Giles was just lucky enough to get a few stops and Radford could not. I consider Giles to have a pretty good defense and could not do much with Radford spread.

Yeah, that's what I thought last night when Grant didn't play. But Radford went with 5 wide outs most of the night spreading the defense, and giving Finley some running lanes. He doesn't need much room to make big things happen. He's actually fun to watch if he's not playing against you. Containing Giles backs is a little different. You got 22 bodies piled into as little a piece of real estate as 22 guys can fit in. Should be a good one. Giles plays Emont that night, so I'm sure you'll have some of us taking in that game.

He might be. I don't seeing him running through the middle of our line but I do worry about the edges and the delayed scrambles with much our defense covering 30 yards down the field. It's going to come down to our secondary making good decisions. I look for a game much like yours..high scoring shoot out.

#3 for Glenvar has over 800 yards rushing with 10 touchdowns.Teams load the box on Glenvar which creates 1 on 1 match up problems. Pick your poison!

Trevor Cash. I believe you a Wilson Memorial fan. You still Salty??

I kinda see that also. He did not run up the middle on us either. He gets outside and it's hard to defend. If u bring sec guys up to to defend him he will eat u up on a pass. Better hope u have good linebackers and I do feel that's where Glenver is weakest this year. Def not their front four. I'm not saying I'm picking Radford to win, have not made my mind up yet. Just saying it's about match ups and Glenver matches up against Giles a lot better then they do Radford.

60 Minute. . I do remember game 10 last year. We had 6 key players injured, and it showed during the playoffs when Glenvar returned the favor 35-0.

you guys embellish that story every time it's told. it was 2 players out at the time, now it's up to 6. You'll be telling your grandchildren it was all 11 starters out on offense.

Agreed that our linebackers have been slow to develop this year but they are clearly playing much better. I have been saying all year that in order for Glenvar to get to Salem Stadium the role players which are all the linebackers have to step up. Against Giles they played great because you guys got through the line or to the outside many times and they came up and made the stop. You guys didn't have a short passing game and that is where we may be vulnerable but we have two very good DB's that can play a 4th linebackers spot and can stop pass or run. Coach Clifford may have them both in the game at the same time to contain Finely.

I remember in my old age.....Its was 3 key players and a couple of role players...a really good O/D lineman, a really good center, a really good DB and WR.

The only thing I'm salty about is watching my team score more points than yours in regulation but due to a penalty on YOUR team having our points erased. Yes I am salty about that.

Other than that no, it was a great game. Had all the highs and lows you could ever expect in a single game for both squads.

I could also make excuses when it comes to injuries like you guys do when it comes to Giles beating you in the regular season but I'm better than that.

All I was referring to in my post is use a little common sense, he wasn't dogging your team in any way. But I wouldn't expect someone your age to understand that. I remember when I was still right around high school age posting on here. I got offended a lot too. You'll get over it.

U are so comical, I guess that is as funny as refs sucking, Glenver lucky to play on wet field last two games and Giles having a key player out last Sat right. I'll tell u what is going to be funnier then anything is that I doubt we even see u on this board after this year lol

I will be telling them

Let's see #54, center #42 Mlb, #8 wr, #66 Ol/Dl #37 Db, #9 safety

I think it's funny that when a teams strengths and weaknesses are talked about some folks can't seem to or just can't face reality...I know where my team is weak...I know what they need to make it through the playoffs...can they do it...hmmm...it'll be tough...but definitely possible....our new nemesis haven't been to the dance many times....reality can be harsh if you don't face your weaknesses...I have watched my spartans fall before and not been surprised because I'm a realist...I've also so them lose like last year and was very surprised....if you beat someone for 20 years and you beat them 33 to 0 a few weeks back you gotta ask yourself if your a coach...what do you change...probably nothing...when you're on top for a long time it's because you have a solid program...with that comes consistency....not many schools can do that for long...everyone should look at their teams weaknesses and realize if they can see them so can a good coach...matchups matter...the punch you don't see coming is the one that knocks you out cold....to admit your weaknesses actually make your stronger...if you close your eyes to them or pretend they don't exist you're gonna hurt more when it happens....now any fan that reads this and thinks that I'm talking about them....I probably am....any fan reading this that can't really see a weakness in their team...you really don't understand the game...you're a homer...nothing wrong with it...but realists like myself can tell.....keep it real and losses and victories are sweeter...go giles

There is only one thing harder than getting to the top..and that is staying on the top gs89er. I know that to be true.
I know my team is weak in some areas..I never say they the WILL win but I am a believer these boys can win if they give their best effort and get a few breaks along the way because they have paid the price to win..No different than your team. Arrogance and confidence are closely related, sometimes they even look the same from the outside and it takes a wise man to humble himself and admit weakness and recognize that what makes him strong is nothing more than hard work and good teachers. Confidence is good to have in battle and arrogance will bring you down and it doesn't matter who you are or where you've been. True belief is humble and always comes BEFORE the victory. Some people will say...well you haven't won a playoff game in decades..it can't be done so why try because we are not a football school. You haven't beat that team EVER so why do you think you can now? Nothing has changed..that team and system is just too good. You will never be as good as them! Even the ardent supporters doubt because they have heard and seen it all before. Then after years of futility. After years of humiliating defeats and a few victories snatched by the jaws of defeat...after years of working for it...you finally reach the goal because you never gave up and every team stood on the shoulders of the team before them.
Some from the other side have class and congratulate you for the accomplishment......But then here comes the naysayers...they always do...they always will. They say you are a one race horse. It was a fluke. It was their other team not taking you seriously. It was the refs. It was the schedule. It was the weather. It was just a bad day...it was injuries.....and on and on and on. If you think Glenvar is going away..think again everything is in place for the long term which is good thing even for Giles. Hopefully our rivalry will keep everyone working and everyone humble and one of us will win it all every year.

And so it begins...rewards you might be a football fan and not a homer...some on both sides are just homers...agree with most of what you said...I don't consider many flukes in any football game...now as far as last year goes I do think that 3 weeks prior had a factor in the outcome along with the 17 second debacle before half...those are the breaks a team has to get to make it and to take advantage of...to the victory go the spoils there...like I said...all about match ups...your line is huge and good right now...it all comes in cycles in football...Floyd was our rival for a couple years and they said they'd be around for a long time...time will tell if you can remain atop of the trd....heavy is the head that wears the crown...we like the crown...we aren't going to give it to you...without a fight

you're right..true champions don't quit..I wouldn't want it any other way..and whether we keep it remains to be seen but there are plenty of us beginning to believe. JV is blowing everyone out and there are some real good players ready to be the next player in. Coaches are confident but humble men and the team is still hungry. We have a good mix going to predict success down the road.

And you never know when Salem will steal away some of Glenvar's talent! We don't have that problem with Narrows!

Has happened in the distant past. Both schools/programs have a huge respect for one another so don't think there is any encouragement at all to do that. If a player wants to do that, it is on him and family for other reasons. I know of a couple that were in Salem but came to Glenvar for other reasons than football or sports. Glenvar has become very attractive for football and chances of playing at the next level are about the same.
