Thanks for these updates. This was a rough and tumble affair that may have set some records for number of fouls called. Riverheads got the worst of that and at times it seemed like the object of the game was to see how often WC could get to the foul line. I only counted 10 girls dressed out for RHS and in a closer game, there might have been concerns about them having enough players to finish.
The aggressiveness was caused by the fact that each team went after the other full-court for almost the entire game. That led to a lot of scrambles for loose balls, with a ton of diving on to the floor. It was just one of those games that left you thankful that no one got hurt.
The Gladiators got nice balanced scoring as Moore's 16 was backed up by 13 from Hannah Grubb and 11 from Olivia Modlin, who picked up two fouls in the first two minutes, but came back into the game and finished strong. Two other ladies, Emma Grubb with 8 and Eva Frederick with 7, came closer to giving the Big Red five in double figures.
As mentioned by pizzzzza, the Gladiators now travel to Stonewall Wednesday with a state berth on the line. I believe the Lady Generals won by one up there the first time and Riverheads returned the favor with a 6-7 point win at home. So on paper it looks like a dandy.
Meanwhile the Riverheads boys will swing into action Tuesday night, hosting Central Lunenburg.
