  4. Central (Lunenburg)
  5. Franklin
  6. Altavista
  7. Surry
  8. Rappahannock County
*Sidenote*
Why'd they pull Tri-Rivers out of Region A when they play a mostly A schedule? It seems that Region B was lacking the numbers to fill out a playoff bracket. Even still, 4 of these teams have been to the states in recent years so it should make for some refreshing(or stale) matchups before states.

This Region is tougher on Sussex in long term it’s filled with hardcore rivals I’m not a fan of playing rivals multiple times of year records don’t matter in those situations

I am intrigued by the Central Lunenburg/Franklin matchup in the first round. Franklin is young and their record sort of reflects that but they can play
and could pull off the upset. I see the other games going chalk but Altavista did stay within striking distance of WC. Rematches that were close a lot of times favors the loser of the first game.

True indeed. Nor am I(hence the stale comment) This region is tougher on all involved. Go back a minimum of 10 years.... Outside of 4, 7 and 8 they've all been in Single A's final 4 at some time in recent memory. Classic matches or redundant rematches, Region B is full of dramatics and mystique. STAY TUNED!

I'm not either but we're talking Region B! Tri-Rivers 1A has schooled the vast majority of the new A for decades. Seems like moving the northern teams in the NND would've been a more logical move instead of hauling the New B's a third of the way across the state for a REGIONAL GAME! Truly no separation of church (VHSL) and state (playoffs)

Could Rappahannock County be the latest team to opt out of a game? I saw where this past week that Goochland had to postpone their senior night because their opponent this past Friday informed them on Friday that they would not be making the trip to Goochland

Riverheads would be off to a great playoff start

Just a product of a pathetically watered-down playoff system. This is what happens when you allow literally every team to get in the playoffs. It's harder not to make it in than it is to make it in. Too many divisions and too many playoff games. All for the benefit of putting more money in the crooked VHSL's pocket.

What needs to happen? I think schools, especially small 1A's, need to distance themselves from the VHSL much like Colonial Beach did in the 90s and early 2000s. There is nothing keeping them in this circus.

1B makes it look worse though. For instance 2B, worst record is 6-4.

If you went to 4 teams in each division, would have teams 7-3 out there, and I think even better records in other classes.

The problem with that currently is the makeup of some of the districts, where some are just so mixed with different class teams.

I think the previous system was better, but I don't think that the one before that was good as there was routinely teams being left out at 8-2 or even 9-1 where looking at a different part of state teams got in at 4-6 because they won a district. Some teams were penalized because of where they lived

So if Rappahannock County tries to forfeit this will they be fined by the VHSL? I mean, the whole goal of expanding the playoffs was to net more money for the VHSL, make no mistake, it was never about 7-3 or 8-2 teams being left out as that would have been alleviated by getting rid of the damn split districts to begin with. 2 districts per region is all that is needed in 1A. And 16 team playoffs is all that is needed in 1A. Fine and dandy to keep it as it currently is in the others I suppose. So I would assume the VHSL will try to get something out of this even if it means fining the school for forfeiting instead of wasting gas, time, and being made the laughing stock for trying to improve a program that is still in trying to get off the mat.

Not certain exactly what you mean (regular season or playoffs) so all I did was look up each of the now Region B Tri-Rivers teams playoff records vs. Region A schools (including considering those 3 to be Region A) for the past decade and here's what I found:
Sussex - 6-5 (3-4 vs NND/Tidewater)
Franklin - 3-4 (2-2 vs. NND/Tidewater)
Surry - 1-3 (0-2 vs. NND/Tidewater)

Rapp has left the VHSL before. Not sure a fine would be much of a deterrent. However, I expect they will line up and play Riverheads.

Sometimes that's tough to do. Some years ago Cumberland came to Essex and Essex had 3 TDs before their offense took the field. Int return, punt return, fumble return for TDs. Not sure what the score was after the first quarter but the refs started the running clock in the 2nd quarter. I think it ended up something like 59-6

It is but there has to be the effort by the superior team to control the pace. Not rushing to the line to run a play when you have a full 40 seconds to “waste” would be a starting point. Simplicity of play calling and liberal substitutions would be another. Taking a delay of game penalty here or there doesn’t hurt either. It can be done seamlessly with tact if a coach wants to.

I guess we'll see what plan develops Friday night. I'm sure Riverheads has no desire to put up a ridiculous score. We've got one out this way with Essex vs. Mathews. Thank goodness for the running clock

Agree
I don't even know if I've seen a team get called for delay of game with a running clock. Usually when the superior team starts to show they want out, the other team and officials go right along.
I completely understand that sometimes teams score out of their control because they're that much better. But I've also seen second halves go by in barely over 24 minutes because teams take advantage of the running clock.

@HighestPoint, there is honor in showing mercy and the good ones know how to make sure everyone knows they are dominant without being a d!(k. I agree that a second half can run along rather smoothly when both teams get to the business of just ending it.

Is Rapp that bad that we totally disregard them competing ? Just asking im sure Riverheads win but I hope Rapp cares enough to compete !

Without having seen them, I think they are way overmatched, but I don't think they will lay down. I think they will give it their all, but they did get beat 84-0 this past Friday. And Riverheads is MUCH MUCH BETTER than Clarke County

Riverheads is taking a huge risk here also if key players are injured on Riverheads it would be huge lost.

I would be surprised if the second team or even third on the depth chart are not in for a decent amount of time in this one. I am actually curious how this plays out as well. And most of you already get this but games like this are where next years team is built. When the game is clearly in hand, your guys that are next up get their chance at PT in live game situations. I think someone mentioned a score of 56-7ish, and I tend to agree with a possibility of Rapp Co scoring 14. The players that come in are not far behind the starters on offense but defensively there is a drop off.

Yes I will Rapp. + 64
they wont score 64, casto wont let them, the clock will be running the second half, and they will prob try long field goals instead of trying to get tds, but if they do get 64, XCROSS u need to make your self known to the va preps world

Hey J , I look for a close game before it starts, lol . How about a new record of field goals. That might keep it down ? I don't think it will get stupid . Casto is better than that ! If they are as bad as bad can get, he will find away to not embarrass the kids. jmo . Joe you are easy . Just look sitting beside. You can't see the forest for the trees .lol
