Deep Run cruises to Class 5, Region B golf title
The Deep Run golf dynasty continued as the Wildcats easily took the title in the Class 5, Region B tournament at Lake Chesdin Golf Club in Chesterfield County on Tuesday.
Douglas Freeman finished second, and both the Wildcats and Rebels will participate in the state tournament at Magnolia Green Golf Club on Oct. 8-10.
While Deep Run and Freeman took home the team honors, Charlie Kennedy of Mills Godwin and Chase Petri of Matoaca took part in a sudden-death playoff to determine the individual winner. Kennedy, the defending state champion, won the playoff on the second hole.
Deep Run has won three consecutive state titles and four of the past five. The Wildcats were anchored by all-region junior Charlie Hanson, who finished at 5 over par during the two-day tournament. Sophomore Trent Sveum also made the all-region team by shooting 8 over par. The Wildcats had a team score of 595, beating the second-place Rebels by 38 shots
