3 NND teams and 1 Tidewater team clash this Friday with the goal of reaching the Region A Championship game (and still playing on Thanksgiving holiday weekend).

West Point (8-3) at Northumberland (10-1)

Washington and Lee (4-6) at Essex (8-3)

West Point (8-3) at Northumberland (10-1)

The winner advances to the title game. Northumberland has not played in the Region A Championship game since 1996. Not sure about West Point.

West Point advances with an away 39-7 destruction of co-NND champion Rappahannock. (I still can't believe that score).

WP was Rapp's (8-3) nemesis this season as they beat the Raiders twice (the Raiders defeated the Indians this year by 20 points ruining NHS' perfect season.)

WP's losses were to Colonial Beach and very close losses to 2A (10-1) King William and 2A (7-4) Clarke.

WP's star is Porter (top RB in Tidewater) who averages 6.2 yards a carry and 136 yards a game with many TDs.

WP also has Lawson who scored a bunch of TDs. Both Porter and Lawson were in top 4 scoring leaders for Tidewater.

This battle is a rematch of the exciting and close playoff game last season.

Good luck Indians! What's you take on the other game?

Well, on paper Essex should win at home easily.

The two teams just played within the last two weeks or so and Essex ran away with it 44-6.

However, both Essex and W&L are the historic powerhouses of the NND. They both have coaches who have seen many a big playoff game. There is the storied rivalry between the two programs as well.

Obviously, #1 seed Franklin overlooked the W&L Eagles and got just plain embarrassed by the boys from Montross.

W&L has some good size and talent (only lost to 10-1 NHS by 5 points) and, if healthy as it seems they are, can cause issues.

Can the Eagles produce more yards than last time v the Essex D?

Can the Eagles stop KJ Dameron who averages 8 yards a carry and has 20 or so TDs? Most teams cannot.

Was Franklin that bad without Ford? Or is WnL improved that much in a couple weeks? This is the playoffs so nothing during the regular season really matters. What was WnL able to do so well against Franklin?
