Monroe's speed and athleticism came up big all night for Essex as he has become the most reliable receiver in Coach John Fulks arsenal of receiving threats. One of the key players for next season's team, Monroe is giving folks a preview to what's left to come. Monroe caught 2 passes for 82 yards and 2 touchdowns. Expect to see more excitement from this junior standout.
Malik Martin stepped up to power through on runs putting up key yardage all night.[/B]

Martin has a quick first step and runs determined like he could run through a wall. The junior stepped up and made the most of his carries versus a tough Colonial Beach defense. His play was big on several 3rd down plays as he had 8 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown. On defense Martin made several key stops and scooped up a fumble and eased down the sideline for a touchdown 73 yards.
Dominek Broaddus took what the defense gave him and it paid off.[/B]

Broaddus played like a leader Friday night. The senior quarterback was efficient on his last game on their field. His deep passes were right on the money and the biggest defender was the cold weather. Of the 5 completed passes on the night, three went for touchdowns as Essex moves on to the state semi-finals.

The only team left for Region A, Essex will host Haysi at King William High School on Saturday at 1pm. Expect a huge crowd for this big contest. Look for the preview for the big game later in the week.
