I will say that everyone always brings up the 3-7 William Campbell team and the 1-9 William Campbell team. The Generals play a very hard schedule and the fact that with those records they still made playoffs (which went by points) should reflect just how hard their schedules were. I am not saying that the "Old Dogwood" is the toughest district in the state, but the last couple years it has been very hard to win in that district unless you have an Altavista, Gretna and Dan RIver type team. Just look at the teams in the "Old Dogwood": Altavista, Gretna, Chatham, Appomattox, Dan River, Nelson, William Campbell. The last 12 years between these schools their have a combined 10 state championships. I am not a fan of the 16 team venue either, but I just think its unfair to judge a team just by their record without looking at the stength of schedule, because I am quite sure that just as you have that 1-9 team in the playoffs there will be and have been several 10-0, 9-1, and 8-2 teams in the playoff that really had no business in there, because their schedules are weak. There really isnt a formula for it in high school football.
