hahaha you clearly haven't watched much Chilhowie this year. No doubt Riverheads is rightful favorite, but saying they'd simply be mediocre in the Shenandoah is being ignorant.

Same team that lost 42-0 in championship is all I need to see. No way they beat ER,Wilson,Gap,Lee or Luray. They would beat Stonewall and maybe Page. Draft would be a toss up. Thats under .500 I stand corrected.

I said I have Riverheads as clear favorite and Warriors will need to play perfect and have some breaks to win, but they aren't same team as last year.

If Chilhowie has the same mentality and work ethic that RH had after losing to Galax in 2015 and coming back stronger than ever with the same people and then winning, Chilhowie has a shot. RH is just a different type of team to prepare for.
Leave the skirting the numbers issue out of it, it is what it is. RH has 447, Northampton has 453 and W and L has 444, no complaints about them though. They actually did fairly well in 2A and would probably do the same considering they play mostly 2A teams. Next year at least 2 3A teams on schedule.Looking forward to some awesome playoff games.
As for the ER vs RH this year, ER definitely had their number on that night. Remember the game was on a Thursday and RH looked completely out of sync. RH likes to have a routine for Fridays and it showed. This is the year ER has been prepping for for years. I hope they do well and represent the district well.

Power points really doesn’t tell you who the best team is it’s decent barometer but let’s look is Appo really the 5th best and is Amelia the 3rd best team.

I guess we read polls differently. I have always thought that a team at the top of a poll with the number 1 by it meant that they were ranked (not rated) the number 1 team.

You may be right though about 2A though this year. I have not paid that much attention to it the last fours years. Before that I think I remember Essex beating the crap out of almost all the 2As they played for years (expect for maybe two state title games).

I think I remember 1A Essex destroying the defending 2A State champs two years in a row (powers Gretna and Goochland) just a few years ago. That occurrence may have been a 1st for opening games.

Polls seldom agree, but I get your point. Admittedly, I had Central at #1 prior to the Riverheads game too. East Rockingham is my #1 now. Central fell to 5th.

Having seen both ER and Central, obviously playing Riverheads, I can tell you that on those two nights, there was a night and day difference.

I think East Rock built up for RHS for years to come, and Evans improved 500% over what he had been in years past. I don't necessarily buy into the rhythm issue of playing Thursday night instead of Friday, but who knows there could be something to do that.

I know that I, and a lot of other Riverheads fans, just "assumed" and you know what they say about that word, that even though we knew East Rock was better, we still expected to win. So maybe on the part of the fans at least, that factored into it.

But one thing is for sure......they had our number that night. Whether they could or would have it again, we will never know.

I then think that Central went through the same thing. Not saying they thought they had it in the bag, but once Riverheads took command of the game, they came unglued and committed several turnovers and penalties that they would not normally commit. So could they beat Riverheads in a re-match??? Again we will never know.

So based on what I saw those two nights, I would predict East Rock to handle Central fairly easily, but again that was just those two nights. It could go a lot of different ways if and when they meet each other.

All of these debates about who is the best team or rated higher are interesting, but causes grown ups to act like kids when debating. Gone are the days of mutual respect, but I guess that's the world we live in today. The team that will be declared the best, regardless of wins and losses, in each Class will be known December 8th if the weather cooperates. Try to keep it civil and maybe humorous until we really declare the best.

They beat Buffalo Gap by 7. LOL

They have had quite a few impressive wins, top 2 being Spotswood and Riverheads. Both very impressive. But nothing they have done to this point would have them "clearly" number 1 at this point, this coming from someone who picked them to be top team in district, and told Riverheads fans before the game that ER would beat them. In actuality, they are "supposed" to beat Riverheads since Riverheads us smaller, and people want to point out Riverheads stays down because they cant compete in 2a. So if you are of that mindset, then you cant use that win as a barometer of them being the #1 team.

I am not one that really pays much attention to rankings, but what other teams have done is impressive as well. I doubt there is a team in 2a that could consistently play with Lafayette, Heritage, etc. So Poquoson loss 13-3 to Lafayette is impressive. Appo loss to Heritage impressive, and it obviously didnt effect them last year.

I think ER has a great chance to win it all, but they haven't done anything to be clearly #1, certainly not enough to disparage someone else for having a different view

Agreed. I try to be friendly to all and love to debate any and all sides (sports and politics).

I often will laugh off most but if I feel someone continues to challenge me (especially if I have already answered their issues in another post in the same thread) or if my school, the Neck, or 1A is challenged, I may just respond on occasion.

Even though Riverheads is the major threat to the NND schools (in many sports), I really respect their success and enjoy having a kind of a new rivalry with the Red Team and the Neck.

I was proud of Riverheads' big win over the at the time #1 2A team (this website) and also wanted to show respect to Va Preps who ranked them the top team according to their research (since I was not too nice earlier in the year). If we have another unbiased poll, please let me know.
