It only took RHS 11 seconds to take charge of this one as Landon Diehl raced 80 yards with the opening kickoff, the first return the Gladiators have scored on this season. The kick was a bit of a squibber that first looked like it might roll out of bounds, but Diehl grabbed it in a crowd and dashed untouched up the far sideline for the score.

The rest of the first quarter then followed the exact same script three times......Robson kick off pins Generals deep, Generals go three-and-out, Generals punt and Riverheads takes over in Stonewall territory, Riverheads scores in five plays or less. Harrison Schaefer got the honors the first two times on runs of 17 and 29, and Diehl used his low center of gravity to scoot up the middle from 10 yards out for the fourth Gladiator score of the opening quarter.

From that point on, the starters played only sparingly, no doubt a coaching strategy designed to keep them healthy for next week's all-important Senior Night game with Stuarts Draft. With that idea in mind, a lot of fresh bodies saw action as early as the second quarter and the remaining four Gladiator touchdowns came from four different players.

Dalton Jordan came in first and carried the pigskin on four out of the five plays of a 61-yard drive, finally scoring from the one, after a long Schaefer run put him in position for the TD. That made the score 35-0, and the Big Red later went to the airwaves to score on a nice Garrett Campbell to Ridge Stokes connection. Stokes picked up his third TD catch of the season, proving that Riverheads CAN pass when it wants to.

With the running clock in effect the entire second half, the Gladiators only added two more scores, both short runs by Jackson Shover and Jeffrey Maddox. One media source is crediting Tyler Smith with the Shover score but the gang I was with felt pretty confident it was Shover.

Stonewall's only score came in the third quarter when Brendan Hoover tossed about a 35 yard pass to Michael Knauf down inside the five yard line, with Hoover ultimately scoring on a desperate lunge into the left pylon after the Gladiator subs threatened a goal-line stand.

Overall it was a clean game that was over quickly with no apparent injuries to anyone, very few penalties, and perhaps most important of all, got everyone home at a more reasonable hour. Riverheads will go for a second straight unbeaten regular-season next week against the Cougars, while Stonewall will celebrate its Senior Night with a visit from Luray.
