Agreed. They will not see a close game the rest of the way. Some good coaches are looking to leave 3a because of it. They are essentially the John Marshall of football.I don't see anybody coming close to beating LCA this year . Better QB then last year with a stronger arm and even bigger Oline Avg 250 or more with the Best RB in state. I just don't see it.
I hope you’re right !!! But these boys on different level than anybody else . They can control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball .Not so fast my friends… Lafayette and Tee Jay may have something to say about that. Kettle Run and Armstrong won’t be anyone’s push over either.
They’re legit but they’ve been stacked like this before and got beat.I hope you’re right !!! But these boys on different level than anybody else . They can control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball .
so are you saying they should be higher in classification?Unfair advantage and they get to play in 3 lol
Yep. Also knowing unless something dramatic happens in Region A we will be playing for #2 behind Phoebus. But playing Phoebus again in the regional final will be exciting.Lafayette is moving to Class 4 next season. Last shot at Class 3 title.
From the Phoebus Neighborhood/District in Hampton, VA, "we heard the same thing a couple of years ago and we don't believe you."I don't see anybody coming close to beating LCA this year . Better QB then last year with a stronger arm and even bigger Oline Avg 250 or more with the Best RB in state. I just don't see it.
They won't be bad, but they won't be anything like this next year.Agreed. They will not see a close game the rest of the way. Some good coaches are looking to leave 3a because of it. They are essentially the John Marshall of football.

Players get sponsored by members of the church to attend for free while regular students have to pay to go to LCA .The difference between John Marshall and LCA is LCA is a private school and John Marshall is a public school LCA is a private school playing in a public school division instead of playing against other private schools like Benedict or Trinity ect ,, John Marshall players transfer their and play other public schools and private schools also, LCA players pay to attend. Big difference. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks for clearing that up for me But it's still being paid for it they're being sponsored. It's not free if you're being sponsored.Players get sponsored by members of the church to attend for free while regular students have to pay to go to LCA .
It means absolutely nothing; IC Norcom has the biggest O-Line in the state! And they go ten linemen deep, averaging 6'4-5, 320 plus. You have to play the game.I don't see anybody coming close to beating LCA this year . Better QB then last year with a stronger arm and even bigger Oline Avg 250 or more with the Best RB in state. I just don't see it.
Glad to have you back up in 4 with us too.Glad Lafayette is moving up to class 4 snd avoiding this. When it first started with LCA Virginia should have sued no matter what and the legal costs bankrupt LCA
Right, there’s a lot more to football than just size.It means absolutely nothing; IC Norcom has the biggest O-Line in the state! And they go ten linemen deep, averaging 6'4-5, 320 plus. You have to play the game.
I've never been a fan of private schools joining the VHSL. That's what VISAA is for.Glad to have you back up in 4 with us too.
If the VHSL had fought the LCA effort, they would not have lasted 3 months. The corrupt Jerry Falwell Jr was what drove the case, and his ego, and unfettered access to LU’s financial resources would have financially destroyed the VHSL long before LU would have flinched.
The whole sordid affair had nothing to do with LCA wanting to become a member of the League. It was 100% driven by Falwell’s personal arrogance and ego. When he was told no by the League, he became incensed, and made a vow that he would destroy the VHSL. So unchecked was his power that he had multiple world class attorneys march into the League office and in so many words told the League to make LCA a member, or we will destroy you.
During that time frame, controlling Falwell was tantamount to controlling Putin. Try to gain control of that runaway train and you would end up as road kill.
Unless I'm missing something, this was the most groundbreaking decision which affected the VHSL since they were sued back in 1997 by a couple of field hockey parents from Lakeland High school (or maybe it was Nansemond River). The decision moved soccer from Fall to Spring (most high school associations around the country play soccer in the Fall to align with the college seasons) and aligned all of the basketball seasons. Much like this case with Liberty Christian winning, the VHSL folded like a tent.Glad Lafayette is moving up to class 4 snd avoiding this. When it first started with LCA Virginia should have sued no matter what and the legal costs bankrupt LCA
actually we talked about that regarding 8-man football. two public schools have already joined them w/o any fanfare.Question, what if public schools wanted to join private schools and play sports, what would happen you think. Any class 6,5,4 or 3. Would VHSL deny them.
Smith Mountain Lake will be in Class 1 Region B next year. Very small school. Only 257 students from K-12.I've never been a fan of private schools joining the VHSL. That's what VISAA is for.
I know that Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy will be next to join...or at least they expressed interest in joining the VHSL...in 2025. I don't know what district they will be assigned to or the classification they will be in.
I do have a worry that later down the line, a lot of these "dad-type AAU style teams" posing as private schools will get the itch to join the VHSL. And then you will have a situation to where those same schools are immediately competing for and winning state titles in the same sports. And that won't make things fun for the public schools.
Maybe I'm just thinking hypotheticals, but according to the notes from the July 30th Alignment Committee meeting, the VHSL is going to green light any private school that wants to join the league.
Now, I know that the counter argument to that is, "You just gotta get better." But if we ever get to a point to where; over the next decade or two, we see more and more "privates" apply and receive VHSL membership, that won't be good for competitiveness amongst public schools in the future.
and there is another very small school in Norfolk - the name escapes me will also join.Smith Mountain Lake will be in Class 1 Region B next year. Very small school. Only 257 students from K-12.
I hadn't heard about that one yetand there is another very small school in Norfolk - the name escapes me will also join.
The Hague SchoolI hadn't heard about that one yet
But are they not 2nd in the region behind Lafayette? It means absolutely nothing; IC Norcom has the biggest O-Line in the state! And they go ten linemen deep, averaging 6'4-5, 320 plus. You have to play the game.
Yeah man we should’ve beaten them worse than we did too. We wanted them so bad again in 2022 to shut that coach up but Heritage beat them. The whole being this big bad private school in the public school league is weak. I’m rooting for Lafayette to knock that ish off! From the Phoebus Neighborhood/District in Hampton, VA, "we heard the same thing a couple of years ago and we don't believe you."
Weird, because they have less than 100 students and it doesn't look like they even currently have a football team
I think the closet they have to sports is a sailing team.Weird, because they have less than 100 students and it doesn't look like they even currently have a football team
Oh wow. I wonder why they want to be in the VHSL then?I think the closet they have to sports is a sailing team.
They’re not playing by the same rules as everyone else. Enrollment shouldn’t matter here. They’re a recruited team playing against mid sized public school teams. Send them to C6 with teams that have equal talent across the board.so are you saying they should be higher in classification?
How so?
