Had a chance to see the Gladiators complete a near once-in-a-lifetime feat..go unbeaten in regular season HS baseball. It's likely been done before elsewhere, but in the Shen valley region, who did it last?? Does anyone know? Maybe TA? Riverheads beat Stuarts Draft 4-1 today doing what they've done best so far this season---some timely hits, make plays on defense and solid pitching, today from lefty Colt Miller--not overpowering but a master at hitting spots!
ON to the conference: seedings set for opening round......#6 R.E. Lee (2-17) at #3 Buffalo Gap (7-12) 5:30 Friday. Winner visits East Rockingham (16-4) next Tuesday in semifinals; and #5 Wilson Mem. (4-14) at #4 Nelson County (5-10) 5:00 Friday. Winner visits those Gladiators in the semis. Best of luck ballers!

To me the biggest surprise of all about this game was that it actually got played. The weather forecast had made it sound like we would have strong storms today, but the game was played in nearly perfect weather with no rain in sight. Great crowd on hand from RHS to see the Gladiators finish the season unbeaten.

As Diamond Dude said, Colt Miller, who is only a sophomore, pitched a great game. He was under control the entire way and went the distance.

Sorry I don't have the kind of detail that some others post on here, but the Big Red scored their first run in the top of the second. SD then tied it in the 4th I think it was, before RHS scored three times in the fifth to put it away. Once Riverheads got its breathing room, the Cougars never seriously threatened, allowing Miller to pitch the complete game.

As mentioned. RHS will now have almost a week before seeing their next action in the Conference 36 semi-finals next Tuesday. If I am not mistaken, SD still has a Shenandoah District game to make up with Page. Best of luck to the Cougars in that one.

I haven't posted on here in forever, but I feel like I need to now.

I graduated from RHS in '09 and played baseball my entire time there. My senior year, we were able to make it to the Region B semis, and I believe set a win record for Gladiator baseball at the time. Obviously, that records been smashed to bits over the recent years, which is awesome.

I cannot congratulate Coach Painter and this team enough for what they have done recently. It's great to see baseball taking off at RHS. When I was there, it was a secondary sport to football and basketball. Doesn't seem like that's the case anymore. I am a very proud Gladiator today. Growing up in the Valley, you marvel over programs like TA, and to be mentioned in the same class as them in anyway is awesome for me, personally.

Best of luck to the guys in the postseason! And thanks to all you guys that post on Va Preps to keep us that aren't able to attend games updated.
