The Rustburg Red Devils had to wait a few extra minutes for their 3A State championship game but they made the wait worthwhile after defeating William Monroe 3-2 to claim the 3A State baseball championship. Senior Hunter Campbell pitched a complete game five-hitter for the Red Devils, striking out seven with only two walks. He ended the game with a 3-pitch strikeout.

Rustburg wasted little time building a 3-0 lead including scoring a run in the very 1st inning. Carson Stanley singled to left field in the 1st inning scoring Hunter Campbell to give the Red Devils a 1-0 lead. They added to the lead in the 3rd inning when back-to-back triples by Drew Calohan and Stanley gave Rustburg a 2-0 lead. Catcher Daegan Phillips crushed a ball over the head of the left fielder to give the Red Devils a 3-0 lead.

William Monroe sliced the lead to one in the 5th inning. A pickoff attempt at second base made it to the outfield allowing Tyler Trevillian to score from second. R.J Payne trimmed the lead to one with a sacrifice fly which scored Anthony Pritchett from 3rd base. Campbell got the next two batters out to end the threat.
