Skyline senior quarterback Ryan Scott threw for 151 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for 119 yards and the game-clinching touchdown as the Hawks defeated the visiting Gobblers 32-22 on Friday night.

Scott(7-15-3-1) started off the scoring on Skyline's opening drive as he found Bailey Smeltzer in the end zone for a 20 yard touchdown throw. A failed conversion kick left the score 6-0 with 3:01 left in the first quarter.

After trading three and outs, Broadway took the lead with a 1-yard touchdown run by Brandon Cruz. The Gobblers led 7-6 with 4:25 remaining in the 2nd quarter.

The Hawks did not trail for long though, as Scott found Trenton King on the first play for a 35 yard catch. After a couple runs by Quentin Diggs and a crucial offsides penalty on 4th and 1, Scott found King again for a 10 yard touchdown to put the Hawks up 12-7 with 1:57 left in the 2nd quarter.

Broadway's next drive was thwarted when Kyle McHugh stepped in front of a Bryce Suters pass and returned the interception to the Broadway 47. On the next play, Ryan Scott appeared to run for a touchdown before it was negated by a downfield holding penalty. The play still netted 15 yards. Four plays later, Scott found King again for a 20 yard touchdown, and the conversion kick put Skyline up 19-7 with 27 seconds left in the first half.

Skyline got the ball to start the 2nd half, and were moving well, before it appeared a Skyline receiver slipped on the wet field, allowing Chris Jacobs to intercept Scott's pass. Broadway ran the ball nine times in a row, scoring from 1 yard out by Cruz on the final carry of the drive, cutting the lead to 19-14 with 6:28 left in the 3rd quarter.

Skyline bounced right back on the next drive. Starting at the Hawk 48 yard line, the Hawks turned to the ground game. Scott started with a 32 yard run. Then Diggs picked up 17 yards on 2 carries. And finally, Trenton King took a reverse 13 yards for a touchdown, and Skyline was up 25-14 with 4:47 left in the third quarter.

After a big Gobbler return on the ensuing kickoff, Broadway only needed 3 plays to score, with Cruz running it in from 2 yards out. Suters ran the conversion in, and the Skyline lead was cut to 25-22 with 3:38 left in the 3rd quarter.

Things stalled for both teams at that point, with 4 possessions without a score. Skyline got the ball back with over 2 minutes remaining, needing at least one first down before being able to run out the clock. After a first down run by Diggs, which picked up 3 yards and kept the clock moving, Ryan Scott took the next carry himself and refused to go down, protecting the ball from Gobblers trying to strip it and dragging players with him as he kept the play alive and the clock running. Before the whistle blew, Scott spun out of the hold of the defenders and then used a burst of speed to outrun everybody for a 71 yard touchdown. The conversion kick was good, putting the Hawks up 32-22 with 1:28 remaining in the game.

Broadway tried to score on its next possession, but eventually turned it over on downs at the Hawk 21 yard line. Ryan Scott took a knee for the final play in the Skyline win.

Trenton King had 73 receiving yards, 2 touchdown receptions, and a touchdown run. Louie Garcia had 65 receiving yards for the Hawks. Quentin Diggs had 74 yards rushing for Skyline in the victory.

The Hawks host James Wood this Friday night at 7:00.
