Salem 24 GW 3

I like how the entirety of the discussion was centered around one defense that gave up 204 points and absolutely no talk of the other defense which gave up 197 points.
Well, I for one am shocked. I figured Salem could score at least 20 pts., but I never figured Salem's defense would give up only 3 pts. Job well done.

True fact; however, all of the negativity surrounding the Salem defense came from the Spartan faithful. Gloom and doom every year and guess where your boys end up? Same old Salem. Most consistent football program in the state and the fans are ready to replace the coach after losing to two region finalist. Damn!

best coaching staff in the state. Commentators were making jokes about all the coaching staff in the press box. They are just as dedicated as the players.

I said as much in that thread. GW's a good team and quality program but I always like to dig into what a team has done in the season thus far before Salem plays them, I think a lot of people scan box scores at best if not just a two second glance at the overall record. For all the complaints about Salem's D, and there were definitely some valid ones, I looked and found a GW Defense who essentially allowed just as many points. I was hoping at least one other person would manage to see the same and interject that into the discussion but that never came to fruition. The other thing I noticed this year was the talk from GW fans was lines, lines, lines. Practically every year since GW has been C4 I read about the next big QB, the next big TB, the next stud WR and that talk wasn't there, or at least not remotely as prevalent as previous seasons, so my thinking all along was I didn't think GW could run with Salem in a shootout (which that thread seemed to have the direct opposite opinion about).

I liked this GW squad a lot. It was different type team from many in the past. Less superstars and more team oriented. I saw them live in game 1 and even though I knew they would have a sound season, there was two glaring weakness. I even told Mike yesterday he didn't need to panic. One they could be run on and two their quarterback played well all season, but against the blitz and sound schemes he would make poor decisions. Dinwiddie put up 300+ yards on the ground against the Eagles and I knew Salem would gash them the same or worse. Salem did what they always do this time of year. Do not beat themselves. It gets harder each week. Good luck and think positive Sparta. Congratulations to GW on a great season.
