Salem
On a dreary night for football across the Roanoke area, Hidden Valley found no traction in Salem Stadium and left winless halfway through the season. Salem received the opening kickoff and wasted no time in getting on the board. Donte Clayborne had a couple of nice runs for 1st downs.Vincent Pinello caught a pass for 10 yards that moved the chains and Alex Ramsey ran it in 2 plays later for the quick 7-0 Spartan lead.

On defense Dustin Swaine made a nice play on a ball thrown across the middle for the interception giving Salem the ball in good field position at the Titans 42. On the very next play Clayborne bolted through a seam in the line and put the lead at 14-0. The scoreboard operator would be in for a busy night!

Hidden Valley had a 3 and out on its next possession, one of several on the night. Once again Clayborne found a seam and he was gone for a 49 yard score 21-0.

Hidden Valley took the kickoff out to its 27 yard line to start their drive. Unfortunately for them, that drive was thwarted by Alex Ramsey
stepping in front of a Titan's receiver and taking it to the house 27 yards, 28-0 midway through the 1st.

Hidden Valley had another 3 and out and had to punt it back to the home team. After a nice 15 yard PR by Joseph Quinn, Salem methodically drove down the field. Riley Fox started the drive off with a 24 yard run. Deangelo Ramsey got in on the action with a 1st down run that moved the chains. On the next play Viante Tucker caught a Noah Beckley pass for another Spartan's 1st down. Alex Ramsey finished the drive off with an 8 yard Td run putting Salem up 35-0 with 2 minutes left in the 1Q.

Hidden Valley was ineffective on another drive having to punt the ball away with less than a minute to go in the quarter. Raymond Kasey caught a 30 yard pass from Beckley to move the ball down to the 10. Clayborne scored on the next play with a 10 yard run putting the score at 42-0.

Hidden Valley fumbled deep in its own territory after the kickoff and Riley Fox did a scoop and score from 17 yards out putting the score at 49-0.

Hidden Valley finally got on the scoreboard with a couple of nice passes down the right side, the 2nd of which found its way into Jake Smiley's hands (former QB turned WR) & into the endzone Salem 49-7.

I will just summarize the rest of the game. Pinello caught a 2 yard TD pass after a Luke Owen 37 yard PR and a 50 yard run by Ramsey. Deangelo Ramsey had a 58 yard run for a TD. Avante Robinson a Freshman RB got in on the action with a 55 yard TD run. Finally, Daniel Ponton had the 2nd Spartans pick 6 returning it 62 yards for the score Salem 77-7 before half.

Hidden Valley had a TD drive in the 2nd half to finish the scoring at 77-14.

I must mention Bryce Holland had an interception in the 2nd half to bring the tally to 4 turnovers recovered by the Salem defense.

I would've attempted 0 passes in a game like that, some sensitive people would still think passing is trying to run up the score.

Obviously, Hidden Valley hid under a rock before the first quarter was over. A terrible shame for any program. Kudo's to Mag's. Salem could have scored 100. Class program with sportsmanship. Now that's what we're talking about when we say Football helps build character. GL to Hidden Valley in the future and to Salem on a highly successful 9 - 1 season.

Salem didn't pass or score any in the 2nd half. Hidden Valley was an 8-3 team last year not a traditional poopy on the schedule like Carroll County or something. All is fair in the 1st half, if they can't stop you even with 2nd and 3rd string players in then tough. 2nd half different story. Part of the high score was 21 defensive pts on 2 pick 6's and a scoop and score.

Who are they losing to Shauntclair since you had to put a slight into your post.

They don't play JF during the regular season! I guess you erred in your research with Maxpreps, VHSL-REFERENCE.COM, & Hudl
Actually, I wouldn't have gone to any of those. I didn't even check but if I had, I would have gone to the VHSL master schedule first. Was pretty confident that was the last game of the Salem season so I threw it out. Quite embarrassing but thanks for the correction Mike.

OK. Thought it was there on the schedule. Accept the stupid ass designation here. 10 - 0. Still, they showed class yesterday. Wish all programs were like the Spartans.
They still have Patrick Henry and Pulaski as possible roadblocks. Blacksburg has a great QB with a couple of nice WR, they also have a really good freshman RB depending on how they use him. Don't think their OL will help them much with moving the ball and their defense won't slow Salem down much more than likely, but it could be fun for a half.

My apologies for the harsh comeback, must get some sleep

You never need to apologize Mike. You're a very, very good man. You have my every respect.
I got to see JF in the Benefit Game with Salem. They have an awesome offense, Navy Jones is the best HS player I've seen in person for a very long time. I think JF has a passing game they're not really showing till they have to. Will be difficult for anyone to stop or even slow down. I hope Salem will get that opportunity, the Benefit Game was 35-34 JF so the teams seemed pretty even in late August based on what they showed anyway. I hope Salem will out point JF so if they play again i can see it! I think JF is in the driver's seat now for the 1 seed though

Love Coach Christmas he has really put JF back on the map for football, they were insignificant when he left in 95 or so.
