Brookville at E.C. Glass (City Stadium)

KICKOFF: 7 p.m.

RADIO: 106.7 FM, 105.1 FM, 1050 AM.

RECORDS: Brookville 5-2 (1-2) E.C. Glass 5-1. (1-1)

LAST WEEK: Brookville shocked Amherst in OT, 32-21. Glass trounced Liberty 21-0.

FACTS: Plenty is riding on this game. The Bees, tied for second with Lord Botetourt in the 3A power rankings, are vying for the top playoff spot. Brookville also has set a goal to play as many postseason games at Stinger Stadium as possible. A win tonight will lock the Bees into the playoffs. And while Glass has enjoyed a football resurgence and a turnaround season, the Hilltoppers aren’t in the postseason clear because the 4A West is only taking the top 12 teams this year. Glass is currently ranked sixth. A win against the Bees would go a long way. Brookville avoided losing three straight with last week’s stunning victory. Glass also returned to the win column after its Week 5 loss to the Lancers. Two gunslingers, both becoming more mobile, go at it tonight. Glass’ Sackett Wood has thrown for 563 yards and seven touchdowns. Tanner Bernard has amassed more than 1,400 yards in the air and thrown 12 TDs. Thomas Patterson has become the difference-maker for the Hilltoppers. He’s not only an exceptional running back (team-best 613 yards) but also one of the best linebackers in the area. Glass is tasked with defending a stellar wide receiving corps, led by Tarell Poe and Ryan Perry.

Heritage at Rustburg

KICKOFF: 7 p.m.

RECORDS: Heritage 4-2 (1-1) Rustburg 6-1 (3-0)

LAST WEEK: Heritage ran over Franklin County, 56-34. Rustburg escaped Jefferson Forest 27-26.

FACTS: Expect hard-hitting action tonight. Heritage needs the win more than the Red Devils, but things are awful tight at the top of the 3A West power rankings. Rustburg is locked in the playoffs, while Heritage is looking to solidify its spot in the Top 5. The Pioneers will face a Rustburg defense that allows an average of 13.7 points per game. Colton Ashby leads RHS with 96 total tackles (57 solo) and also has eight tackles for a loss, while Davon Jones has seven tackles for a loss. Expect both teams to feature ground-and-pound offenses tonight. Rustburg quarterback Dant’e Jones (629 rushing yards) has run in 11 TDs this season to go along with his 467 passing yards. Heritage will have to also key in on RB Shmar Johnson, who has a team-best 755 rushing yards on 75 carries. RHS has to watch out for RB Elijah Davis, who has torn up Seminole opponents with his 1,112 rushing yards and 18 TDs. And after only a handful of games, Kevin Moss has proven a prolific runner (511 rushing yards). His passing ability is also improving. Watch for the Red Devils to also try to hold down WR Caleb Snead, who caught two touchdown passes last week and is a serious threat in the open field.

Jefferson Forest at Amherst

KICKOFF: 7 p.m.

RADIO: 100.9 FM, 94.1 FM, 580 AM, 1420 AM.

RECORDS: Jefferson Forest 2-4 (1-1) Amherst 5-1 (2-1)

LAST WEEK: JF lost to Rustburg 27-26. Amherst fell to Brookville 32-31.

FACTS: The Cavaliers can’t afford a loss tonight. They probably would have been a solid playoff team had they won last week, but are now ranked 16th in the power rankings, with only the top 12 4A West teams making the playoffs. And they also travel to face an Amherst team that’ll be eager to step back on the field after last week’s gut-wrenching loss. The Lancers fell from first to fifth in the power rankings this week. They’ll be without quarterback Keshon Turner (ankle) again this week and, probably, for the remainder of the regular season. That means Octavius Jones will once again be tasked with acting as quarterback. JF may get a break in this one, since it doesn’t have to worry about Amherst’s passing as much without Turner. But keeping Jerry Page and Jordan Woodfolk contained is a tall task. Page will probably eclipse the 1,000 rushing yards mark tonight, while Woodfolk has totaled 544 yards on the ground. Force Amherst into three-and-outs and from breaking away for large gains and JF has a chance. But let Page and Woodfolk run free and things get challenging. Amherst will look to contain Marvin Blake (568 rushing yards) and Morgan Marshall (305 rushing yards), while putting a couple players on Noah Mayfield, one of the area’s better receivers.
