The Shenandoah District baseball tournament gets underway tomorrow night with four games on tap. I think it was supposed to have started today but I know of at least one graduation tonight, so maybe they moved the whole thing because of that or maybe there was still some concern about wet fields. There might still be some anxiety for the first day or two over the continuation of our monsoon season, but right now they are giving us reason to expect three sunny days from Thursday to Saturday, so we should be able to get the entire tournament in, even if it has to be strettttttched out a bit.

# 8 Lee High goes to # 1 Page County for a 6:00 game. I was told that Lee had to win a playoff game with Luray to get in, but I never saw anything official about that. The Panthers should be expected to roll in that one.

# 7 Buffalo Gap at # 2 Riverheads in the only 5:00 game on the docket. (I am just assuming by the way that RHS is seeded number two and SD number three.) Regardless, this will not be an easy one for the Gladiators. The Gap held them to a 5-4 game in Greenville and then in the re-match at the Gap, the Bison jumped out to an early 5-0 lead before Riverheads rallied for a 15-11 slugfest win. Never assume anything with a county rivalry game.

# 6 Stonewall at # 3 Stuarts Draft, also a 6:00 game. If I am not mistaken, Stonewall actually beat the Cougars once this season, and I think it may have even been at the Draft. The Cougars had a weird season as they went 3-1 against the two teams ahead of them (handing Page its only loss of the season) but struggled against the lower seeds. Therefore this one could be interesting.

# 5 Wilson Memorial at # 4 East Rockingham (6:00.) I seem to recall that Dalton Jefferson easily handled Wilson in a recent game at the Hive, so the Eagles might be favored in this one. However, they had some trouble winning at home this year, so you never can tell.

Not sure what day the semis will be held, but will try to keep you posted. Highest seeds will host throughout. Also starting tomorrow are tournaments for softball and both boys and girls soccer.

I have since read that the semis will be planned for Thursday and the championship game Friday.

Rain has continued to be an issue but I just read that East Rock and Wilson did get their game in tonight (Tuesday) with the Eagles winning 5-3. The other three games will all give it another try tomorrow (Wednesday.) I understand that Buffalo Gap at Riverheads will now be a 3:30 start. I presume the other two are keeping their 6:00 starts. The chance of rain seems less than we once thought, so hopefully all three of these will get played, and the tournament can then wrap up on Thursday and Friday.

But then things look dismal again for the start of regionals next week, but we will cross that bridge when we get to it.
