Hey Group: I was out of town last weekend but it sounds like I didn't miss too much, since we are still in the non-district part of the schedule. If there was a game result that surprised me, it was East Rock losing in the final seconds at Madison. Since Luray had won a close one at Madison the week before, are we supposed to infer that the Dogs might be on a par with the Eagles this year in the Shenandoah? If so, then that is a hmmmmmmm I wonder thought to consider.
But that was then and this is now....So looking ahead to this week's games, the final week before we start district action, here is the way I see them playing out:
Riverheads at Waynesboro: Last time out (the Covington game) the Gladiators were not exactly a well-oiled machine, but the bye week should have smoothed out some of those wrinkles. The Giants have not figured out RHS' system these last three years since they renewed their rivalry, plus they no longer have Chris Baker, so I expect another Big Red win in the series, but I doubt if the Giants will roll over and play dead. Last two years have been the same score (35-21) so something in that range would not surprise me.
Stuarts Draft at Broadway: Tough one to call since there are no common opponents. The Cougars so far seem to be the Izzy Johnson show, so if the Gobblers can control him, they come out on top. I call this one a toss-up with the home team squeezing out a win.
George Mason at Luray: I believe I am correct that the Dogs are unbeaten so far this year. If so, then they could roll into Riverheads next week for a battle of the unbeatens. But I don't know enough about GM to know if that will happen. I am guessing it will, which should make for an interesting district opener.
