Like I said , good team , but has weaknesses that were exposed. Biggest being Lack of speed and separation at the skill positions . Pass defense is terrible as result of this . Kettle Run made adjustments at the half , and Sherando couldn’t or didn’t. Sherando wasnt able to just will and methodically move its offense down the field with its strong line play. Kettle Run is a very good 3A team, and will be a threat at the state tournament level.

Winchester Star Sherando vs KR

I went to the game which was a good decision considering my Falcons dropped another heart breaker. The first half went poorly for Kettle Run after failing to convert 2 times inside the 5 and only getting 3 points out of those possessions. That coupled with some coverage busts and poor angles on a fast QB led to a deficit but in typical Kettle Run fashion they were able to make the adjustments and completely overrun Sherando. According to the article above, Kettle Run was without their star TE/MLB which makes their performance even more impressive. The QB performance in the 2nd half was a master class and the WR's at Kettle Run are obviously well coached because they are running routes that you just don't see high schoolers execute very often. I don't think the ball touched the turf in the 2nd half.

My thoughts on Sherando are that they are well coached and are impressive on the line. I think a couple of their linebackers can really play. They played screens well and stuffed the run a bunch. But like Scalvin said, the DBs were on islands and were not able to run with Kettle Run especially when the OL holds up and the QB is accurate.

Like the past 2 years, if Kettle Run stays healthy they have just a good a chance as anyone to play into December.

Exactly, Sherando will still do well at least I think in the playoffs depending on the matchup. Especially against a team that primarily runs the ball. Sherando had an opportunity to go up by Two scores at the beginning of the second half , and the drive stalled at midfield mainly because KR had made adjustments to run defense . Very well played second half by KR .

The better team definitely won last night; I don't think anyone could sanely dispute that. However, I can't help but think it could've been a closer game had Sherando gone up by 10 before halftime and put KR in more of a bind. Sherando had all the momentum at that point in the game and were getting the ball back after halftime. For those who weren't at the game, KR fumbled at punt at their own 20 with under a minute to go in the half and a Sherando player was the first to reach the ball, but he tried to pick it up instead of falling on it and it got away from him. Can't blame the man for trying, but wish it had gone differently. Being up 27-17 going into the third and having the ball to start the second half might've convinced KR to take a few more risks.

KR also missed a field goal and dropped a ball at the goal line though, so it goes both ways.

Not sure it would've made a difference anyway given how much better KR looked in the second half. I agree with Scalvinscaliwag that it looked like Sherando either didn't adjust as well or just couldn't. Sherando's DBs were getting cooked all night long, and there was a sense of inevitability that whenever KR got to third and long, they would run a slant and pick it up easily. And the O-line was getting bullied after halftime; QB1 barely had any time in the pocket.

Could see Sherando winning a game or two in the playoffs depending on the matchup. Not many teams will be able to pass and run as effectively as KR. Not fast enough on either side of the ball to go much further than that.
