Since some folks were curious about District F in another thread I decided to dust off my files and post some details (football only) here. District F was the forerunner to the Northern Neck District prior to integration. These were the "white" schools that were members of the VHSL. The "black" schools were members of the VIA, although I don't believe any schools in this area fielded football teams although AT Johnson (Westmoreland County) may have at one point.
Rappahannock did not start playing football until 1963 and that was a limited schedule.
Here's the breakdown of District F champions in the 1960s:
1969 -- Bowling Green (previously Caroline and now Caroline following merger with Ladysmith)
1968 -- Rappahannock (undefeated)
1967 -- Caroline
1966 -- Northumberland
1965 -- Caroline and Tappahannock (which is now Essex following merger with Essex County High School)
1964 -- Caroline
1963 -- Tappahannock (undefeated)
1962 -- Northumberland
1961 -- Caroline (undefeated)
1960 -- Caroline (undefeated)
A few more nuggets:
From 1960-62 Caroline had a 21-game winning streak and a 25 game non-losing streak (two ties) that included 7 shutouts.
From 1962-64 Tappahannock had a 17-game winning streak including 8 shutouts that featured 6 consecutive blankings of the opposition.
