I thought this game would be interesting and it was. South County hurt themselves with 21 penalties, several at very inopportune moments. Briar Woods left a ton of potential points on the field, getting just 3 points on 5 drives inside the SC 31 yard line (the drives ended with a FG, two fumbles, an INT, and a dropped TD pass followed by two penalties and a sack that pushed BW back into their half of the field). This game was exciting and both teams looked very good overall on both sides of the ball for this early in the season, despite the errors.

BW got their first points when Maffe intercepted a pass and returned it to the SC 11 yard line, but after failing to push it in BW settled for a 22 yard FG by Moreno, 3-0 BW. SC's first score came on a 81 yard drive capped off by a Findley 6 yard run to put SC up 7-3 with 4:14 left in the first quarter. SC scored again in the second quarter on a 77 yard drive when Findley scored again from 3 yards out, 14-3 SC with 3:17 left in the half. BW answered with a 71 yard drive when Skyler Springs hit Maffe on a 29 yard pass to pull within 14-10, SC, which is where the score stayed at the half.

Skyler Springs hit Samari Springs with a 30 yard pass to cap a 75 yard drive to open the 3rd quarter and put BW up 17-14 at the 8:14 mark of the 3rd quarter. A few series later BW had a chance to extend the lead, but a wide open BW receiver dropped a sure 31 yard TD pass and the penalty on that play, plus another penalty and a sack, forced BW to punt from their own 43 yard line. SC took over on their own 10 yard line, and after a penalty and three incomplete passes had to punt from their own 2 yard line. Samari Springs returned the short punt to the SC 4 yard line, but a BW block in the back penalty on the return and a SC personal foul put the ball on the SC 37 yard line, with BW having another chance to extend the lead. A few plays later SC's Johnson came up with an interception on the SC 7 yard line to kill the BW drive just after the start of the 4th quarter. SC drove the field and looked to be ready to score, only to be intercepted by BW's Maffe on the BW 5 yard line. The score was still 17-14, BW. SC then scored on a 53 yard drive with Simay scoring on a 51 yard pass play to put SC back on top, 21-17 with just 6:43 left in the game. BW took over on their own 35 yard line, gained a few yards, then had to punt-but a SC roughing the punter penalty gave BW new life at the BW 46 yard line. After a 49 yard pass to Samari Springs found BW at the SC 5 yard line, a 1 yard run by Skyler Springs but BW back on top 23-21 (XP missed) with 3:04 to play. SC started the next drive on their own 25 and after a few solid plays McDaniels hit Spaulding on a 63 yard pass and SC went back up 27-23 (XP blocked) with 1:56 to play. BW had one last chance but failed to convert 4th and long near midfield and SC ran out the clock.

He did not play QB but I do not recall if he played at another position. If he did play another position, he did not have one of the highlight plays I was tracking. The new kid, a transfer, was the starter and he was pretty good. He could pass well or pull it down and run. He was elusive and had good speed.

He was the backup QB from last year who lost out on this year's starting QB competition to a transfer. He was expected to have a good year leading SC until Skyler Springs arrived and beat him out. Word is they both may play, but that was not the case against BW.

Michael Salisbury did not dress and did not lose the starting QB job, SoCo had 6 starters out with injury's in Game 1. Salisbury has 4 D-1 scholarship offers and is the SoCo starting QB.

I stand corrected. I had no way of knowing about the injury situation. Thanks. SC will be much better if they were missing 6 starters.
