A familiar face was on the field at spotsy tonight as spotsy scrimmaged New Kent. it had been since 2003 since Tim Coleman coached on the field named after him.
on the first series on offense you could see his presence on the field. they did not have 1 off sides penalty fumbled snap or any confusion on offense! since he left 13 years ago all we saw was penalties botched snaps and fumbles galore along with confusion on offense.the plays as smooth as silk. this hasn't happened since Tim left in 2003. lets not get too excited spotsy fans as this NK team 1 and 9 last year was not very good! the knights looked good on offense like the good old days and the credit goes to Coleman! he has been helping AL Johnson and it shows.
NK got the ball first and the qb on the 6th play on offense threw a pick to ball hawking db Charley Lewis had a 35 yd pick 6. I td to 0 Lewis really played well as he had another interception in the 2nd half.
NK was unable to move the ball as each team had 10 plays. spotsy got the ball and on a nice 6 play drive mostly aided by the running of qb Chris Recobe and the power running of 235 lb fb Michael Shelton. Shelton scored on a 10 yd run spotsy 2 td's to 0. on the next series same size fb as Shelton Mike Genelio powered his way in the end zone from 5 yards out, spotsy's 3rd td's NK 0. this is a typical Tim Coleman wing t with 2 huge 235 lb fb's Shelton ad Genelio leading the way. boy did those power backs bring back fond memories of the powerful Tim Web and company in the championship years.
after halftime the teams played a more game like conditions. on the knights first possession smallish wing back Robbie Evans scored on a nice 35 yard td making it spotsy 4 td's to 0. then in the final quarter Charley Lewis scored again on a beautiful 80 yard td run making it 5 to 0. NK turned the ball over with a fumble and spotsy scored its 6th and final score as qb Chris Recobe hit a beautiful play to Stephon Carter making a great over the shoulder catch for the final 6th td going 35 yards. end of scrimmage.
on the defensive side of the ball the only db that stood out was Charley Lewis who had 2 picks 1for a td. the spotsy db's need some work as the only way New Kent could move the ball was through the air. a couple times they had wide open receivers but the pass was dropped or qb didn't make the connection. also Shelton at middle line backer played well along with de Tony Thurston. lb Steve Yontz and db Alex Rappa made some big hits for the boys from post oak!
this was a good scrimmage for spotsy especially on offense. no NK was not the Packers of the 60's but I was impressed by the knights. They are slow a foot with a small qb and dwarf receivers but what they lack in size they make up in heart. they seemed to know their assignments especially on offense something us spotsy fans haven't seen since the Tim Coleman glory days. with Tim helping out there maybe finally the program is headed in the right direction. for the knight fans lets put things in perspective. the knights probably will find it hard to win 2 or 3 games but at least we can be able to see our team once again be competitive. thats something we have been starving for since Tim left. keep up the good work guys and good luck this year!

So is Coleman officially on the staff? Glad to see things already look better for your Post Oak boys! I can tell you're happy.

no they tried to hire him but he didn't want to be obligated to be there all the time so he declined. he wanted to spend time with his sick father taking him to some of the Friday night games. so he is not officially on the staff as he is just volunteering his time.

Just can't go wrong with Tim Coleman. The talent may not be where it needs to, but it will be not be a team that beats themselves or loses heart. We'll have to see during the regular season but step one seems to have been taken. GL in 2015.

Good way to label it shaunty! first step taken by Coleman out there and you are right on by saying they wont beat their self. I hope he will stay with them all year so he can show Johnson the ropes. but he told me he probably won't travel with them as he wants to take his father to some games close to home! but anything from him is better than none! that offense Friday night never had 1 turnover or botched snap or off side or procedure flags and the offense looked in sync something I haven't seen since Tim left. you are dead on that the talent isn't there yet but it is the first step to bring spotsy back to what it used to be! I really like Al Johnson and the kids seem too also! for once in a long time I have my hopes up and look forward to the season! I know they won't be a contender this year but at least the boys from post oak will once again be competitive something we haven't seen since Tim left.

That's all you want to see David. Competitive. Heart. Discipline. Dedication. I don't care if you win or lose. If you give me those things, I love your team. Can't wait to see how the Knights do this year. GL in 2015.
