The offense is coming around, and the defense pitched another shutout. Next week vs Manchester at Varina High School

What are the early thoughts on this next game?
It’s gonna be about stops. HSHS hasn’t faced an offense as good as Manchester’s,but Manchester hasn’t faced a Defense as good as HSHS’s. The Hermitage offense put up 28 on Manchester’s D. HSHS’s offense has steadily improved since the DRun game, and looked pretty good today. Both teams run and throw well. I know for a fact Manchester has not faced a secondary or front 4 than HSHS has. The Manchester offense will be the best Offense HSHS has seen. Manchester will have to find a way to slow Gilliam and Pernell. Idk how you decide which DB to go after for HSHS. All 4 have power 5 offers, including 2 with Oklahoma offers. The only QB I can compare to the Manchester QB is Kite. Kite’s line couldn’t protect him. Manchester OL is much bigger than the DR OL,but Monacan was too fast for them,if I remember correctly. If HSHS continues to improve on offense (they really looked good today vs PG),they will be hard to beat. If HSHS spots Manchester 21 points in the first quart,it will be over quick, because HSHS likes to wear teams down with that sledgehammer RB. I got HSHS in a close one,but I won’t be surprised if Manchester comes away with the win either. Dent is making better decisions as of late, and that’s making them hard to handle, because that D is really playing lights out. It’s a long week to ponder it. What are your thoughts?

HooSprings....was there an ejection or two late in the game against PG? Looked like the ref had signaled something at least once. Doesn’t VHSL require an ejected player to miss one or two games? Not sure if any starters or impact players were impacted.

The stud RB/Lb for PG(he’s a monster)found it necessary to throw a punch at one of our smallest JV WRs that just got called up for the playoffs. Our WR threw a punch back. Both were ejected. HSHS was up 34-0 late in the 4th qtr when it happened. Our WR must sit out this week! The Kid from PG must sit out his next Varsity sporting event.

Got it...so no big impact for the Manchester game. Any major injuries or are you guys at full strength? Should be a heck of a game.

Manchester is the real deal. I got a chance to watch them and Herm Friday night in person. I was wrong earlier when I said that a Henrico team was a sure state champion. Manchester is really good.

I don’t know about our jr QB,Nassir. He was doing some rotating with the Sr starter, but had a shoulder injury vs Varina. So,I don’t know his status. He will be the starter in the fall. they brought in the JV starter.for 1 play, in the second quarter when the starting quarterback lost his helmet. They will only use Jones as an emergency! Boston College( he’s already signed a LOI)wants him to play defensive back,so he really wants to just concentrate on that position. no other injuries that I know of.

Manchester is a really good team. I’ve never seen a bedwell team fall behind 21 points in the first quarter. Manchester has given up a lot of points this year, and only Monacan kept their offense in check. Highland springs defense is everything advertised and maybe more, but they have not seen an offense as good as Manchester all year either. With Dent running the ball as well as he is out of the run/pass option, I will be interested to see how Manchester defends the Highland Springs offense. The 4 DBs can’t help in the run game. In my honest opinion, this game will come down to who can make stops, and as I mentioned above, I will not be surprised if either team wins.

Manchester is a Rythm offense. You can’t let them click or their like the old Golden State Warriors. You gotta make Manchester dink and dunk and you got be able to contain the run with your d-line. Not stop completely, just contain them. You need those DB’s and LB’s in passing lanes so you gotta get it done with the front 4. Make Manchester consistently have to pick up 3rd and 4th downs. If you let them hit home runs early it spells trouble.

Easier said than done though. @HooSprings Manchester has a lot of folks who will be playing college ball too one day. Cody is probably the best dual threat QB in the area. He been putting up numbers since he was in middle school blazing up the national rec league circuit. Ramon Brown has 22 D1 offers and has been getting busy. They have a few other kids that are having breakout years. They return practically everyone too for the fall.

Ironically, this will be about can Manchester consistently get stops and can Highland springs dink and dunk & discipline themselves to a victory if they have too? IDK... I haven’t yet seen them this season BC the PG game was the same time as my chiefs game. I have seen Manchester. Gonna be a good game for sure!

I think anyone that claims to actually know what will happen when these two teams meet needs their heads checked.

In my opinion this one is wide open and lots of blue sky for whichever team wants to claim it.

Good news is, I’ll be wearing the winners jersey once regionals is over. Whoever that is go ahead and bring one on home for the 804!

It’s gonna be a good one for sure. The Manchester RB is easily the best RB HSHS has seen,or will see this Spring. I’m not sure Cody is better than Bo Kite(DRun),but I do know Cody will face the best secondary in the state throwing the ball. The DLine is of course led by Oklahoma bound DE Kelvin Gilliam. This will be the most talented defense Manchester has seen all season. My biggest fear is the offense. If they play like they have the last 2 weeks,I like HSHS’s chances, but if they play like they did vs DRun or the 1st half of the GAllen game,Manchester will win easily. Manchester will need 4 good DBs(one weak one WILL get picked on...ask PG)and need to get pressure on Dent without using their DBs in run defense. Again....like you haven’t seen HSHS....I haven’t seen Manchester either, but I know they’ve given up a lot of points. As I’ve said....I will not be surprised if either team wins, but like you,I will assuredly be rooting for them the next round(s).
